Gabapentin

I had an episode of  burning on my forhead and cheeks and pins and needle feelings in which I started Gabapentin for. Over a 4 week period I gradually increased the dosage to what I am on now, 300mg three times daily. This seems to help greatly with the nerve pain but I started after 2 weeks to develop a very itchy neck, ear lobe, and face. My face sometimes looked like it was burned. Im just wondering if anyone has had this while taking Gabapentin. Im going to start to slowly reduce the Gabapentin in hope that the itch subsides and hope the neuropathic pain does not return.  Just wanted to put this out there in hope that someone can help me. thanks heather

thanks Sissie, Ive reduced the gabapentin and the itching skin has subsided. I didnt contact my doctor as I was hoping my MS nurse would have gotten back to me, unfortunatley she didnt. I just get a bit fed up always going to my doctor for one thing or another with this MS. Ive gone from 2 years ago only seeing my gp once a year if that, to now it seems like every month. My MS nurse is usually good at answering my quetions but this time I felt I could not wait. Thankfully itch had subsided and hopefully will be gone totally soon and pray the neuropathic pain stays away too. I just cant help but wonder 'what next'! Well Im so glad Im feeling better. Long may it continue. Hope you are well too - best wishes heather

I don't know about the itching but I do know about Gabapentin. It made me nutty lol. My dr put me on Gabitril for my nerve pain and it worked wonders with no side effects. I do know you should talk to your dr if you have not already about lowering your dose on your own. Medications like this are sometimes worse to take yourself off of and need to be monitored by a dr. Best of luck, Sissie
