Great site/app for people with mobility disabilities

Not sure if anyone's mentioned this here already, but in case not, I wanted to share this great resource.  It's called AXS Map, and was created by Jason DaSilva, the filmmaker who premiered his film about life with MS, called When I Walk, at Sundance this year.

Anyway the gist of it is that anyone can go to the website www.axsmap.com (or look up the mobile app) and enter reviews about the accessibility of various restaurants, govt buildings, medical facilities, shopping malls, etc.  I haven't actually entered any reviews yet but plan to, as there appear to be none for the city of Calgary where I live.

The site was just launched last year and just starting to gain momentum.  I believe the city with the most reviews thus far is NYC; that is where DaSilva currently lives.  I don't have problems with mobility but figure it's easy enough for me to start paying attention when I'm out and about, and ask questions of business owners such as whether they have a accessible washroom or a portable ramp if the entrance has steps.

As far as which locations can be entered, I believe any building you can find on Google Maps can be entered for review.

I have a lot of time on my hands these days so figure this is a worthwhile use of some of that time.  I also plan to mention it to the localMS Society and other organizations that support people with mobility disabilities.

Great find, DV.  I'm going to download it now - I often think 'could I do this if I were in a wheelchair?  What about a walker?' when I am in new buildlings.

Thanks for sharing this great site or app! It could be immensely useful.  I recently went to a dinner which was located in an historical building. The party was upstairs and they had no elevator because they could not make any modifications to an historical building in this county.

Needless to say I had to climb 2 flights of stairs on a bad knee and with decreased strength and stamina. NOt fun! If I had known this, I may have declined the invitaiton.
