Grrrrrr - Pinch and itch on arm ?

Like many of you, it's sometimes hard for me too to know the difference between an MS related symptom or everyday run of the mill one anyone can have.

The inside of my arm deltoid area pinches, then itches, then burns. I've had this on and off, but never this long.

Kept me up all night, and it's still not gone.

You think it's MS related, or did my husband bring home the chiggers from the woods. He said no, that I'd have bumps if it were chiggers.

If I said I wanted to rip the skin off my arm would I sound dramatic, lol? Seriously, making me nutty.

With my second relapse, in 2009, I had an itch in the back of my left shoulder/neck and under my arm that I couldn't scratch. Nothing would make this go away! I went to a dermatologist and she couldn't find anything. Eventually it went away. Who knew that it was MS! :-)

Those Lidoderm patches are prescription.  Call your Neuro's office and have the secretary have him call it into your pharmacy.  You get 30 in a box.

Can use up to 3 patches at the same time.  But make sure you remember what time you put it on because you can only have it on for 12 hours then off for 12.

Buffy! You explained it exactly, the pinch feels like a sting, and then the dig/itch - aaaaaaah I loaded the spot with alcohol, hoping on hope it's chiggers from hunting husband, lol Little better today, and I slept last night, stings are smaller.

Lu - hahahaha Yes, special K! I remember, I remember. Think I should be eating some of that... Just one inch? Seriously? hahah

MaxC - I was thinking ice, but didn't end up doing it! I will tonight for sure!

Jensy - Scalp? Oh, no! I'd have dug my head off for sure. Your right about the same durn spot. When I had this before it was both sides, same spots!

Tingle-T: That is exactly where my is. Between my elbow, and my shoulder, toward the inside but not quite underneath.

Lisa - I'm going to go by some of those patches! Never seen them before! Keep your wand out, woman! We all need it, lol

Thank you all so much - gonna try lots of this advice!

Yes! I use those lidocaine patches now on my left leg and left arm when they are burning (well through the entire month of October).  They definitely helped!
(along with Neurontin)

Poor Shelly Belly! I wish I could take this away from you! I'll wave my wand and say, "Bippity Boppity Boo!"  How's that? Is it better already? No?  Call your Neuro.

:P

Shell,

An MS buddy of mine has this from his elbow to his shoulder and it itches and pinches like mad. Before being diagnosed he actually scratched it until raw. It is the only symptom that he experiences. So I would say MS fits the bill by the souns of your sx.

Blessings

It's weird how the paresthesias seem to hit the same spot - whether it's itching, tingling, buzzing, or burning.  I get all sorts on my scalp.

I hear that lidocaine works wonders for paresthesias like that.  Especially the patches - they just cut out a piece and slap it on.

You poor thing!  I've been through that too, but I had no idea it was my ms...  I had a patch that I did end up taking the skin off of.  It has happened in various places over the years- with no reason I could think of.  I tried every kind of ointment.  In the end, bombarding it with cold water- to the point of numbness, was all that helped.  (Over and over again as needed.) The biting feeling too...

I still have so much to learn.

have to laugh - I read your title as

Pinch an Inch - do you remember that old advertising slogan?    I think it might have been for special K.   LOL

Hope the pinch and itch gets better and soon!

For about two years now I've had on/off sensations that feel like bites - sharp (sometimes like a large horsefly, if you know what that feels like), dull-achy stings (like wasp), digging/itching, and of course the fav... burning.  If you think about it the brain is responsible for everything; however, my neuro has been reluctant to say these are anything other than muscle (spasms)... ?

Good luck.  If you find out what it is be sure to post it.

Even the "pinching" feeling seems neurological.  Did I misunderstand you or did you say you had bulging discs?  If not, then forgive me for getting it wrong.  For some reason I thought I was told this and that you do need to correct this at some point in the future.

The area you're speaking of is around the thoracic 1 through the thoracic 4 level of the spine.

I'd call your Neuro and let him know at least that this is not the first time you've had it but it is the first time its lasted this long and its driving you crazy?!?!?

Kisses and hugs

Sarah - Friggin is right. And, some other choice words. aaaah Least were not alone in our discomfort - misery does love company, lol Have you had much relief from that combo?

Lis - I don't know if I contributed to the burning because of itching it or what? It's not burning so much now - just the pinch and itch.

In addition to Rebif, I take naproxen or ibuprofen daily, and every couple days a tizanadine. Though only been been on those intermittent the past month.

I'm definitely ornery!
(((Hugs))) thank you ladies :)

I would have to say this is a neurological issue Shell.  The burning indicates such as well as the itching.  I'm sorry you were up all night (pouts).

I have that problem from time to time with the itching and have taken benadryl along with my new prescription Neurontin which seems to help much more than without it.

You don't sound dramatic, you sound frustrated and obviously you have to be tired.

What other medication are you on other than Rebif?

Well I posted recently about having an itchy head and I had the same question, is it MS related or just something else? So all I can do is say
that I really empathise with the ****** itching and I think it is MS related
as it subsides when I take my lyrica which eases nerve related sx so
can only assume there is a connection?

Sorry this does not take away the frigging itch on your arm.

Love Sarah x
