HI Bob
Both the eye pain and head pain that lasts for a few seconds is a much deeper pain, as opposed to pain around the right side of the head ear & eye which I have constantly for which I take pregabalin 400mg a day and also Cymbalta 60mg at night. I also have botoxilin injections for the atypical blespharospams which I have been told is to do with something disfunctioning in the basil ganglia.
Although the botoxilin injections helps around the eye itself it does little for the pain around the rest of the head.
But it's the deep pain which I can't work out whats going on.
Thanks for your help

Pain on the surface of the eye can be from the third branch of the trigeminal nerve. Pain in the top middle side - I'm guessing you higher on your head above your ear, is moving out of the zone for the trigeminal nerve.
The trigeminal in right above the ear and provides sensory and some motor control to the ear, eyes (sensory on the globe) and face. The rest of the scalp gets its sensory innervation from a skeletal nerve, the occipital nerve, that exits at C2 on the spine and enters the scalp at the back of the head.
For Occipital Neuralgia, steroid and local anesthetics can be used. At any rate, I'd think atypical blepharospasm would be a motor event in the facial muscle around the eye. Anti-Seizure meds like Sodium Valporate, Tegretol, Neurontin, etc. are sometimes used.
