MS 'Hug"

Hi all.  I was just wondering if anyone could describe what the MS hug feels like.  I'm constantly having this tightness around the top of my stomach.  It goes from rib to rib right across the top of my stomach.  It feels very tight, and it is hard to breathe or eat.  Last week, I felt so ill.  I actually lost eight pounds.  Felt too full if I ate anything.  I believe this problem is also responsible for my blood pressure rising.  It has gone down now, but that tight feeling is so uncomfortable.  I sometimes feel like the muscles in my stomach is relaxing.  It is then that I can breathe better.  I also had diarrhea.  Some of the stomach pressure left then also.  I wll probably contact my doctor tomorrow as I've had this since last Tuesday.  Any answers anyone?  Oh, I should mention, I do have an hiatal hernia, but I don't think that the hernia is the problem.

The tightness you describe may or may not be the "hug", but I concur with doublevision- I don't think the other problems are associated with the hug.  It actually sounds like a bad virus to me.  Stress over the situation can be responsible for the blood pressure problems-but of course, I have no idea what is really responsible for this problem.

I hope that this situation resolves completely for you.  If it doesn't, in time you will have the answers you need.

Another thing you really might want to look into:  gallstones.  Research the symptoms, it may be just what you need to read about right now.

Best of luck to you!

The sensations you describe match my experience with MS hug.  However it does not to my knowledge it does not affect blood pressure nor result in digestive problems such as diarrhea.  This would make me think it is not MS related.

I am RRMS diagnosed almost 5 year ago.
