Help I'm Scared

I have been complaining of severe fatigue and muscle weakness.  Neurologist sent for MRI which showed white matter lesions.  I have to go for more tests.  For the past 2 weeks my fatigue and muscle weakness has been getting worse.  Have had left sided weakness in arm and leg off and on for few weeks.  I was just in kitchen peeling potatoes and just had such overwhelming fatigue that I had to go lay down.  Sometimes I feel too tired to write and my voice gets weak when I talk.  Does this sound familiar to anyone?  Would appreciate any replies very much...

Unfortunately, your experience sounds very familiar to me.  You're doing everything you can though.  When you need to rest- do what your body is telling you.  Just be prepared, diagnosis can be a long road.  Get some help with your chores if you can.  Save energy for really important things.

I usually only last 15-20 minutes before I have to go sit in my recliner.  I also sit in a chair to do as many things as I can.  Above that, my husband has to do the rest, or it doesn't get done.  It can be hard to accept, but it does help.

Totally familiar.

That kind of fatigue... When I'm standing, I feel like my body is screaming, "Lie down! Come on, you're going to collapse, just lie down. Or at least sit. Come on, sit. Or lie down."

It's really very persistent.

A few weeks ago I rested my head on a friend's shoulder at church because I just couldn't hold my body up.

Plenty of sleep helps. Taking a break and trying again also helps. I'm sorry you are going through this. :(

Hi Rondoo,
I know how scarey all this can be. I was hospitalized a year ago for sudden onset paralysis of my right side. My SSEP and EMG tests came back with abnormal results, blood tests and spinal tap came back "normal", spinal mri's show no lesions, brain mri shows multiple non-specific enhanced foci...in layman's terms "we don't know what's causing your symptoms". I often have fatigue hit me while I'm cooking, or after a hot shower (heat seems to be a catalyst for me). Try doing your cooking prep while sitting down, have a cool cloth handy to wipe your face and neck, and bring a chair or stool near the stove so you can sit down if you need to.

Hi Rondoo,

So sorry - this can all be so scary when it comes out of no-where. You are doing the right thing - moving on to a doctor, but please don't be afraid to call the office and tell them you are scared and that you want to be seen.

All I can recommend for now is try not to panic when it happens. Lay down, and rest. And, if you find no resolve, please make that call to the doctor working on your behalf right now.

No need to do this alone when you have a doctor. Also, you will get great support here because many of us have experienced what you are right now.
Thank you for joining us!

Its generally slow here on weekends. Just wanted you to know you aren't alone. Follow through with your neuro. Weakness and fatigue can have many causes.
