I am so lucky - my multi talented MS team

Hi Guys,

Just thought this might be interesting for one or two of you.

I went to see my neuro physio yesterday and ended up having acupuncture! Yes that’s right from the neuro physio!!

I started telling her about the problems I have been having. I am so sick of all the pain and feel my body is compensating and throwing everything out.  She got me to show her on a line from no pain to worst pain I have had in my life where all my pain was. The atypical TN, the shoulder, the back, the ribs, the hip, the knee, now these are all on the right hand side.  She drew the areas on a body map and considered this for a moment and I blabbered on about acupuncture and how I was so desperate.

I asked her if she knew of a good acupuncturist as I had discussed this with my GP and she felt it was a good idea as it often works well for those with MS. Well, it turns out my neuro physio is trained in acupuncture too, she felt that as some people with MS react well and some don't why not give it a go, and we did, there and then.

She was not able to put a needle in my right hand, bearing in mind what I said about my right side and the pain/MS. She feels it may be because my whole body is sensitive on that side. She also feels more of my pain is MS related than is credited at the moment and not arthritis except the knee which we know is. I don't know much about this stuff but I intend to read some more.

I had one needle in the right hand and 3 around my knee which is the worst area at the moment. After 10 minutes I asked her to remove them as I seemed to be having an adrenalin rush, she told me that was normal and some people can feel faint.

Boy, it is powerful stuff I reacted quite strongly with only 10 minutes as it was my first session, but now I feel kinda calm. So here's hoping that it might help.

Just thought you might be interested, seems my MS team are multi talented too.

Pat

Sounds good. I have been wanting to try acupuncture for some time now. I know it has helped Lulu. Gives encouragement...thanks.

You know I have just realised I said one needle in the right hand and it should have said one in the left hand, it was the right one that was too painful. In fact the pain I felt when she tried to insert one in my right hand was well out of proportion to what she was doing and my whole hand hurt and it was spreading up my arm. We tried twice but to no avail. Yet I could not feel any of the other needles.

I also try to use alternatives, I have had no choice with a 20 year history and only recently being dx. So I will keep you posted. I was just blown away by the phyio's approach.

I've been thinking of acupuncture and your experience is encouraging.  Let us know how it keeps working for you.  I believe in covering all bases and also use alternative medicine approaches. Hugs, Charley.
