Legs of Lead

So I am walking through my house today and I notice that every step I take sounds like I weigh eight tons.  I just hear Boom Boom Boom with every step.
Now I know I had an extra bowl of ice cream yesterday but honestly...

Then I realized that my legs weighed  a lot more today than usual.  Tried to do a few simple low impact leg lifts last night and apparently I am paying for it today.

It is so hard for me to tell when to exercise and when to not.  I don't want to lose the strength in my legs, but I don't like feeling like this either.  Anyone have a miracle suggestion??

Thanks
D

Fer sure!  I notice it especially in my hands.  I've been learning to play the upright bass, which is great for improving hand strength, but when I'm fatigued and relapsy, my hand strength goes right out the window.

hi there, I find if I'm rested or in the morning, my legs are stronger since I started yoga and abit on Wii fitness.  But, when I'm tired or my legs are tired, they just don't wont to work and will at times start shaking and not want to work right.

that's when I know I have to stop and rest for the rest of the day...or two..

take it easy out there

I bought some shoes, (Doc Marten mary jane style) and at first they are comfortable, but then I realize I can barely walkin in them cause they are heavier then my sketchers and I drag the one foot or they make the clop clop noise as they slap down when I walk. anyone want to buy some barely worn shoes :|  lol  I also love my crocs, they are like clouds on your feet!

Cool thread!  Yeah, I've got the LoL myself!  When I practice Yoga, even in the deep warrior poses, I don't let my legs get to the burning point, just because they scream "Uncle" before I get there - they just don't have the Wheaties to hold the pose, and so I go into a resting pose for a few breaths before attempting the other side, or another pose.

On the other hand I was weeding my chard and salad greens last Sunday, and it didn't matter  if I was kneeling or standing, my legs shook the whole time. I slept like a rock that night.  Amazingly, I didn't pay for it too badly the next day (I took it easy, anyway).  Basically, my legs were fatigued before I even started to weed.

My $0.02?  Don't let it burn too much.  Listen to your body. If it cries "Uncle", REST for heaven's sake!

Cheers,

Buns of Steel and Legs of Lead - We could do the video!

Good luck standing up.

I find the line between effective exercise and later fatigue and inability to move a delicate line to balance also.  Funny, I have strengthened my legs very slowly just going up the stairs about three times a day.  I went from not being able to lift my right foot onto the next step to being able to take them one leg after another - VERY slowly.

Now, I can tell my leg is soooo much stronger - but only in the morning or after a long rest.  When I am fatigued, I am right back where I started - unable to get it up on the step.   Has anybody else noticed this.  That your strengthening is effective, but does not last through the periods of fatigue?  I think this is the critical difference between getting stronger and maintaining strength.  When the motor nerves are malfunctioning - in fatigue or heat - the old weakness is right there as if you had never exercised.

D - your fatigue today might not be due to the leg lifts.  When you say you did "a few", did you do them until you felt the muscles fatigue?  Maybe this is just a low energy day for you.  I can't always point to why I have a good day and why I have a bad one.  Sometimes I just do.

I think I would caution people with significant weakness to have different goals.  We don't want to "feel the burn"  and should stop some exercises before we really feel the muscles fatigue.  What do you all think?

LOL I like that. Sometimes I forget to stretch unless I "feel" tight.
Tired legs feel good when stretched too you helped me discover :)

I do live in my socks.  It is amazing how something as simple as slippers could put us flat on our face.

Today I spent a bit of time outside since its 68 degrees here (don't throw snow balls at me anyone) and I kicked a soccer ball back and forth a bit.  I would say moved it with my foot more than kicked.  My legs went into a fit.  The creepy crawly numb tingly whatever you call it was unbearable.

It is sometimes so hard when you have to tell your 5 year old you can't stay out and play with him :(

Gonna try and stand up here in a min.  Wish me luck

Hey D,

Long time, no chat. Maybe you can stretch those LoL's (legs of lead) out. ha/ha. Don't have any miracles to pass along, but when mine feel heavy, stretching sometimes takes the edge off. Just don't over stretch them quickly - slow and steady is key.

I take my slippers off when they feel heavy too. One pair I have make me scuff along too much, and any added resistance seems to make it all worse. So, I'll sock up with a comfy pair to get around the house with.

And for goodness sakes try "anything" to not have to cut out that ice cream! We NEED those simple pleasures ha/ha
