I just want to share this amazing day

Hi Guys.  thank you so much for your support.  Several have responded to my journal entries.  Sorry I haven't thanked each one of you individually.  It has been a hard few weeks.  I have been just trying to sort things out.

I do have some good news.  I saw my clinical psychologist Dr H today.  He gave me a phone number to a Dr F here in town.  He, Dr F, works with RA and at the VA hospital.  Dr H said that Dr F should have been a medical investigator, that he just would not stop until he found the answer and that he went above and beyond what most Drs are willing to do.   So he tried to call Dr F but got a recording.  He gave me the number and I called when I got home.

Dr F is accepting new patients but he is booked up until February.  I have to have a referral but that will not be a problem.  So what do you think?  Worth pursuing? Also I am feeling better because if Dr H thought it was in my head, he wouldn't be referring me to medical doctor.  So much for that in my head theory.  ;0)

Then  I need a new neuro/psych eval, per the MS specialist, but was told at UK that my med card would not pay.  Last month Dr H my psychologist, not the MS specialist, and I discussed this.  At that time he gave me the phone number to one of his colleagues, Dr C.  He said if anyone knew if my med card would pay it would be him.

I had brought the number home and forgotten about it...duh.  Today when I was looking for the sticky note with Dr F number I also found Dr C number, which I called.  He is a neuropsychologist.  Dr C answered the phone.  I was expecting an office assistant .

After my initial surprise I explained that Dr H had given me his number and why.  He said the neuro/pysch had to be under the umbrella of a Medicaid provider for the medical card to pay which he wasn't.  He explained his practice and his cost, 2000$.  So then asked about my medical condition, the condition of my brain, the problems I have etc..I was shocked.  Here I was talking to a doctor that was asking questions and he wasn't even getting paid and had no idea who I was.

Long story short he said UK has a neurophsych dept within the neuro science division...this is where I had been going.  I told him about being sent home.  He told me what info to take with me and to take a timeline with just the relevant info about my brain and the associated problems.  He even told me what to have my doc write on the referral.  He also said if you take more than what I am telling you you may get pushed off as it is all in your head or you are crazy.  I said been there done that.

Okay  I am totally amazed at this doctor I am talking to.  I told him I had expected to get an office assistant.  He laughed and said this is my cell phone number.  I then began to apologize.  I told him I had no idea.  He just laughed and said how many ppl actually get to talk to the doctor.  He then tells me before we hang up, after he had given me the info, that if this doesn't work to call him back "on his cell phone...this number" and we will figure out something else.  How awesome is that????

I called the lady he gave me the number to.  She does the scheduling for the 2 docs.  I got voice mail but I left a number and message...although probably some what garbled.  I am on overload.  So I hope she returns my call and that everything works out.

I find it so dangerous to get my hopes up....again.  But I do believe that Dr H and Dr C had given me some.  I have been blessed with so many good caring doctors, just not a neurologist that falls within the same category.

best of luck with Dr F!  really hope it works out for you. thank goodness you're off the "in your head" label.

that label is like a prison sentence from an abstract point of view.

keep hope alive, realistic, but keep it alive.

bluegrass area huh? used to know the place well

What a great experience you had with truly caring doctors. I am so happy for you that there is an open door for you to walk through and a real opportunity to find out what is truly wrong.

Thank you for sharing your experience so that others who are so frustrated by their medical care can have hope that their turn is next.

Hugs,

I'm so happy that you were given the direct time that you deserved.  This sounds promising.  My neuro spent about an hour to an hour and a half with me the first time I saw him and the day of my diagnosis, so I know there are caring medical professionals out there.

The day he diagnosed me he told me after looking at my MRIs "I guess it IS in your head."   It does feel good to be validated when you know all along that something is seriously wrong.  I hope this doctor figures out what's wrong with you.  It sure does sound like he's wanting to.

Wow, what a truly amazing day!  You just go ahead and let that hope simmer and bubble and enjoy the gift of time and attention that Dr. C. gave you.  A rare and wonderful gift!

I had one such doctor, who truly cared about his patients.  His wife was his office manager, and she gave me her cell phone number, and called me more than once to help me deal with bad experiences with other doctors, reassure me that she would fit me into her hubby's tight schedule when needed.  One night she talked to me for 45 minutes, telling their personal experiences with a doctor that I had a bad experience with.

They had to move across the country to deal with family issues, and I miss them terribly.

So, enjoy this gift, and I agree with Lulu that it's time for you to find more such compassionate medical people to help you out.

Hugs,

Kathy

Sweetie, Never ever give up HOPE.  With out it what else do we have. I see what happened today as God's way of answering all the Prayers being said for you.

I truly Believe that He above all else is in charge. What we do with this knowledge is a choice we each make.

I remember how hurt and upset you were, and am so happy to be able to read that a Doctor not only heard you but actually talked to you and offer to be there for you and it isn't about $$. How blessed you are to find a Real Doctor who cares about People and not the $$.

I will continue to offer Prayers for you as I as always have. I hope you are breathing a bit easier. Now have a nice hot cup of Tea, and relax a bit. You have sure had a difficult time up to this point. I have a feeling from here on out Things are going to get better for you.

Terry with all you have been through, Thank You so much for your Prayers and support.. You carry my thoughts and love with you and I am sending you special Hugs{{{~!~}}}
