I think it depends on whether the IgG value is a straight serum level, or is the IgG Index. The index relates the CSF and Serum values.
From the Mayo Clinic...
"Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) IgG index is positive (elevated) in approximately 80% of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). Oligoclonal banding in CSF is also positive in approximately 80% of patients with MS. The use of CSF index plus oligoclonal banding has been reported to increase the sensitivity to over 90%."
As immisceo mentioned, MS diagnostics typically involves CSF analysis, rather than serum analysis.

I'll be honest, the only thing they were really looking at with my LP were the oligoclonal bands as things were already stacking up for MS like Tetris on speed.
If I understand things, however, it would be things unique to the CSF they're keeping their eye on as it represents inflammation which can represent past infection or diseases like MS. I'm unfamiliar with results that are unique to the serum having significance, but this is best addressed with your doctor.
I've never used this site myself, but it's recommended by one of our very important members (VIMs!) http://labtestsonline.org/ It apparently helps clarify results and they're levels. It is not, however, a replacement for discussing this with your doctor if you're concerned.
