Is it common to have an EEG done while in limboland

Hello again, all...Just wondering if anyone else has had a Sleep Deprived EEG done with trying to figure out what is wrong with you.  I've recently seen a new Neuro, whom I like alot, he is sending me for a Sleep Deprived EEG, Visual Evoked Potential and Hearing Evoked Potential or something like that.  I wonder if this is to rule out other things or just part of the process?  What is it going to be like etc...

Any input greatly appreciated...Really hate this limboland world.  But I must say, my Neuro started me on Primindone (Mysoline) which I began on Friday night 1/2 dose, this is for my right hand tremors, and it really seems to be helping.  The tremors are less noticable and it lasts mostly all day until about 4-5pm, then the tremors come back.  I have been feeling "weird" though since I've begun taking it but said that it normal and by body should get used to it rather quickly, we'll see.

Thanks again,

Thank you Mike for your comments!!!  All tests came back negative, I guess you nailed it on the head, INSULTED!!!  The EEG was normal still waiting on the evoked potential tests to be scheduled, supposed to be done before the end of the year, we'll see.  Thanks again

I just did some evoked potential tests last week (will get results this Friday), visual, auditory, and spinal cord at the VGH EEG dept. The only one that caused any discomfort was the spinal cord tests. One at a time, they put a small electrical charge into each wrist and ankle and measure the signal your brain receives. The wrists were no problem, but the ankles were another story. Not really painful, but very anoying and uncomfortable.
Regarding the HIV, syphilis, and lyme test, don't be freaked out. They likely don't think you've got any of those, but they have to rule them out. I was quite insulted when I was told I had to test for syphilis and HIV, I've been FATHFULLY married for over 32 years! Anyway, it's not personal, they just got to do all the tests.
Good luck

Thank you wobbly.  Yes my first symptom this time was extreme Vertigo, so much that I was falling down and sometime blacking out.  I just got a call from my PCP and she said that the Neuro from UCSF wants more blood tests, HIV, Neurosyphilis, and Lyme...I am totally freaked out right now!!!  I asked do they really think I have HIV or Neurosyphilis and she said no that the dx is pointing definately towards MS but she forgot to have those run on my spinal fluid when they did the puncture and they really need those to rule out those diseases.  I am still sooooo freaked out right now.  Can't find any info about how lesions in the brain look or are located in either HIV or Neurosphylis to compare mine to.  Well, thanks again..

hi there, and yes some people get these tests done...are you going for a Sleep Study?  where you sleep overnight at a hospital or medical clinic??  is so, that is where they attach all the "things" on your head.. it doesn't hurt..

also, a VEP, they do something the same, but it doesn't take long and doesn't hurt.
they could be trying to rule out things as well as getting information to help get to a DX..

do you have Vertigo at all?  If so, it could be for that?  and VEP is vision..

hope this helps
