Nelle, do you have migraines? I think migraine can make horizontal things "shimmer". My history of migraine was the reason for the klonopin for the jumping visual field. The doc felt it could be due to migraine. Although they scrapped the "migraine associatd vertigo" Dx due to the spasms and myoclonus, they kept the klonopin because they said it can help myoclonus too. Just a thought. Though I think horizontals will shimmer for most if you look long enough.

Hi Nelle,
I read your other post about anxiety. I think Quix's answer was very good. Please take her advice and address the anxiety first before worrying about the physical symptoms.
The thing you say is 'If I think about it I can almost make these things move..."....
Our minds are wonderful brilliant things and they also can make us think almost anything. The more we think about something, the more we may be able to see it or feel it. This doesn't downplay your anxiety, but you need to focus on addressing teh anxiety now, not the sensations that you are feeling and which you say are quite mild.
I have not been diagnosed with MS, although I have been seen by 2 neurologists. Both of them didn't think I fitted a diagnosis of MS.
The first said nothing was wrong and nothing to worry about and the second recommended antidepressants, which I declined. (I know what depression is like - I get it if my thyroid meds are too low, however that needs thryoid med readjustment, not antidepressants).
However, despite the stuff happening I am continuing my life and staying busy.
You are very welcome here, but please don't spend too much time thinking about other people's symptoms, as this could increase your focus on your health, which is a concern at the moment.
I don't mean to be blunt or anything, your anxiety is real and needs to be adressed first so you can focus on being mum to your kids and enjoying your life.

I have just posted on this forum due to some weird tingles, etc. Went through all of this 9 years ago - at a time when I had some health related anxiety and it has started again a few months ago. However, my vision does this - esp when looking at horizontal blinds, lines, busy patterns, etc. More when I stare and if I think about (I can almost make these things move or shimer). I have just posted on eyecare forum to see if that's any help. I also have an astigmatism and wear glasses at night to help with that. Have you been diagnosed with MS?? I am really worried now.
Mine jumps always to the left. It is quite unerving. Doc put me on small dose of klonopin for this - which also helps myoclonus as an extra added bonus.

Hi Quix,
Thanks.
My vision just feels weird. I just changed eye glasses (and my L eye now has a stronger prescription), but pretty sure is not those cause it also happens with my contacts in - though to a slightly lesser degree.
Things are in focus, but somehow not quite how they should be - maybe something to do with depth perception. It gives quite a disorienting feeling. I have problems particularly with lines.... things like louvres, the scorings they make in concrete to stop vehicles slipping, etc.
I lose focus after a few hours on the computer anyway, so that's nothing new.
I find it easier to read books (up close, like when lying in bed reading) with one eye closed than with both together, though either can do just as well. This is relatively new. Is ok if I'm holding the book more at a distance.
Hmmm...

When you become dizzy when you close your eyes, it is a signal that you are relying more heavily on visual information to maintain your orientation in space. This implies That you have lost some of your automatic vestibular (balance) function and that the eyes are "filling in".. The problems with this is just what you mention. Dizziness in the dark, and easy visual fatiguebility. Do you sometimes feel mentally exhausted after spending hours of vision-intensive work? (reading, looking to and from the computer screen, etc.) Have you started being bothered by visually busy environments (like supermarkets).

Hi Sally, i aint had the jumping vision but plenty have had, must be awful 4 ya hope it improves, i have had vision problems but mine is blurriness so that i cant see and also i have lost my vision completely at times and suffer hurting when i move my eyes and also hurting in behind them yep mine are a bit of a problem
hope things improve for you Sal
I'm not sure if what you are describing is a brief form of oscillopsia (apparent movement of things in the field of vision) or if it is a single beat of nystagmus.
I also have had periods where it appears that something in my peripheral vision suddenly "shifts". I don't like it.
For someone who has all of this imaginary stuff going on, you sure sound like one of us.
