Body Tremors..

Hi everyone, Its been awhile since I'm on and just wanted to ask a question.  I'm Dx with MS and it's progressive. Lately my body has days that my legs when I'm standing will just start to wobble really badly, and it will come and go...then come and go.. like a switch going on and off.  It will knock me over and I feel like I can't walk at that time.  It's not like my Vertigo spells.. I'm not dizzy at all.

it's my body, leg, head.. arms.. not all at the same time.. but it stops me from doing much.  When I lay down or sit down it's OK.. so it's when I'm moving or trying to do something it could happen.

this is a new thing for me and I wonder if others have this type of tremor or whatever they might call it.
any answers would be great...thanks all

I've found that if I 'let it do its thing' that eventually it works itself out.  Kinda like a sneeze - when the itch starts, sometimes it's better just to go ahead and sneeze, rather than try to suppress it.

My neurologist thinks it's because of ectopic transmission - the lesions in my spine are sending erroneous signals up and down my spine, causing the myoclonus.  Take a look at this health page I wrote - it'll help explain it.

I get this too. only in my left leg and I do use a cane almost all the time. i never know when my leg is just going to not respond as fast as I need it to.  the tremor, jerking whatever. I've not known what to call it. i have tried to control it but that seems to only make it travel up my leg to my back. if i let it do its thing it will stop after awhile.

I tend to hug walls a lot anyway. I can't seem to stand long without my legs feeling like I've been in a marathon. leaning on walls helps a little. looks bad and lazy and rude, I guess. seem to hear my mom saying "don't lean on the walls". lol.  but it is either that, fall, or sit on the ground and it is way to hard to get up.

guess that is something else to note for next neuro visit. haven't said anything because I figured he would think me mental. ha.

My neurologist got worried when I told her about the leg weakness/clonus thing, and prescribed Keppra for me.  She told me that I could start taking one at night, and if I was still having problems, to start taking one in the mornings.  I found that the Keppra helped the leg myoclonus, but I was still having some symptoms, so I've started taking one in the morning and one at night.  I'm not pleased about it - I'm still working full time, and it's difficult to be at work when I'm jerking around!

Oh, yeah - I forgot to mention that when I get these myoclonic things, my legs get really weak.  I have to sit down because I'm afraid I will fall.

Is it tremor, or is it clonus?

The reason I ask is that I'm having several kinds of myoclonus.  I get the myoclonic jerks of my spine.  I also get clonus of the legs (usually in the morning, although I got a really weird one last night.)  Lately when I get up in the morning, my legs will start to wobble back and forth - like the knee can't stop bending and straightening.  So after about seven or eight blip-blip-blip-blip-blip-blip-blips, I finally get my legs under control enough that I can move.

When I get tremor, it's of the hands - when I hold them out, they shake rhythmically.

thanks again everyone.. it helps to have friends here that understand what you go through.

Karen the links are great info..

Candy.. this sounds just like what happens with me.  I'm using my cane all the time, it's like apart of me now.. and it doesn't help all the time too.
but I'm at least glad it's not everyday... it does come and go.

take care everyone

Hi sweetie,
Yes, I have the same thing.  I have got to use my cane now because I don't know when it will hit.  My neuro said there isn't really anything they can do, since it does not really hurt, it is just dibilating, so, sorry for that...........

But, some day are OK right?    That is what I have, and for sure stress makes it worse.  Sometimes the Flexeril will help, but it can make you drowsy, so don't drive if you take it.

Hope this finds you a little better,
take care and hugs to you,
Candy

Hi Wobbly,
I am not dx'd with ms, but I do have a left hand tremor that started a week before Christmas, became really bad for a few months and is now slowing down. It becomes worse with movement (pointing my finger, bending my fingers, trying to reach for something, or even holding a cup) I do not tremor when I am resting.

As far as my leg is concerned... just two days ago, I went to stand up and my right leg started to shake,,, it was weird!!! Once I was stable, it stopped.. I basically just assumed I was off balance or something.

I did go to see my neuro a couple of weeks ago, and he pulled the anxiety card on me.. when I spoke to my psychologist, he widened his eyes when  looked at me  and said, this does not look like anxiety, and I have done all of the testing on you to prove you are not an anxious person
. He said that ."yes, you have had situational depression" but you are not what I call "a basket case" , he is wicked cool,  I didn't take that in a bad way, we both kinda laughed and agreed.

I hope you get some good answers!!

Take Care,
Pam
