Leg turning outwards when walking after exertion, new symptom?

Without going in to all my symptoms, now my leg is turning outward when I walk.  It is like my foot is turned outward at a 90 degree angle.  I can force it to turn straight if I focus, but it is much less painful when it turns outward.  I have been having a lot of leg pains and was wandering if this was my body just compensating anyway it can to reduce the pain, or if this is a change in how I walk?  Any ideas?

Hi Kelly,  I read through and was confused until I realized it was an old post.

It might help if you begin a new thread and let us know what is happening with you specifically

Are you sure that the mold problem you had didn't follow you?  Mold can grow in your clothing, rugs or furniture.

I too do this on my left foot.

When I noticed that I was doing it, I straighten my leg out and get pain in my hip.

When I walk, I turn my right foot out (like a ballet dancer) I know why I do this - if I walk with my foot straight. I get very strong tingling sensation that that within a few steps has turn my whole leg to jelly and I can't walk at all, so I go to turning my foot out. I guess that in this position I do not have to walk through my foot so much as if it were straight.
so it's more comfortable.

My right leg has been turned outward at an 90 degree angle for about four years now. I have about 4 dozen other symptoms to go along with it, but have not been diagnosed with any disease, but have been told by many PA's and nurses that they think I have MS. If any of my information seems similar to yours, any feed back wood be greatly appreciated. The only thing that show up on my test is. my CSF stays around 110mg, positive ANA 1:320 Nucleolar pattern,  GFR 49, Lymphocytes, 18, RBC 4.23, Hemoglobin 13.7, MCH 33, Ph 8.0, All MRI's and CT's are clean.

Weird, and I just thought I was in my own world when it comes to bizarre things like this.  I'm going to be ordering a forearm cane/crutch just to help w/ this... it doesn't happen all the time, and I thought it was "me" causing my leg to turn out due to being lazy minded or something.  I seem to be "fine" as long as I'm not doing anything - I spent a week at home on vacation and had felt pretty good since I wasn't really minding the chores list or working - but the minute I go to fold clothes, walk to the mailbox or perform any form of mild exercise, the burning, fatigue and muscle wackiness all starts up again.  I'm waiting for B12 tests to return at this point.

This forum really assures me that I'm not as outta sorts "medically speaking" as I thought.  lol
Other people have issues too.  :)

I'm so thankful for this community and our ability to search the community. I too have problems exactly like this. After walking for a while (maybe about 1/2 mile), one of my legs will begin to turn outwards as I walk and my foot will go out sideways. And sometimes, it's even both of my legs that do this. It especially does this when I'm walking up hills. At first, I thought I was imagining things, but I asked the person that I walk with and she agreed that it really was turning outward. Hills are the worst for me.

Even though I don't want these symptoms, it's nice to know that there are other people out there that understand. Hope everyone is doing good.
Take care,
-Kelly

I too have this with my left leg... it happens for quite a few weeks, then subsides and I can walk abit better for a few hours...then my leg will get weak and the pains start up in the evening or late afternoon... I use heat and rub them to help with the pain.

my walking is strange right now because I have a lower back problem..on my right side...just above my you know... so I put heat there too...not fun... my Dr gave my Naproxen.??

I have a similar problem while in a relapse.  My symptoms usually start out where I feel fatigued and weak.  My muscles weakness starts with severly low muscle tone perticularily in my core muscle groups i.e. hip flexors, abdominals, and neck muscular.  When this happens my legs will often turn outward and my balance is impaired.  Then after a period of weeks my muscle tone inproves and my balance is a little better but then my muscle tone gets too high and I have flexor spasticity, meaning that the muscles that flex my legs are very rigid......hip flexors, quadraceps and dorsi-flexor muscles.  When this happens its extremely difficult and painful to walk because I'm bent over all the time.  I lay in bad at night and rub my legs and use heat and cold packs trrying to releave the pain and muscle spasms.  Then this slowly goes away and then I start to feel stronger and walk more normally.  The last time these symptoms hit me was in August I became so weak at that time that I could bearly walk just a few feet, sit up straight in a chair or hold my head steady and had trouble keeping my eyes open.  Now I'm pretty much recovered from these symptoms except that I'm still having some mild left leg weakness and spasticity.  I don't know if you've been diagnosed with MS yet but you may try speaking to your doctor about the pain and see if he could perscribe you some muscle relaxants to releave your pain.

It seems to be all the time lately, but I have been experiencing a lot of pain from my hip down for a few weeks.  I think it is just more comfortable that way than straight.  Hopefully like most of my symptoms that come and go it will go away soon.

Good evening,
Is this after you have walked a while and the muscles have tired or overheated OR is this all the time now when you walk?  I notice my right foot turns in when I get tired/overheated and the foot drag/drop stops as well.  I don't have any answer for you, but I'm sure someone else here will be able to help.  Be well, Lulu

quick question, if you pull it straight, does your foot drag.. are you walking this way to avoid foot drop (I do) or just becuase of the tightness or pain. I'm with Jen, perhaps you are experiencing some type of spasticity or muscle tightness that is pulling it outward. Does gentle stretching or massage help this, or just rest? I have a migraine, so my mind feels hollow so I'm not much help today, sorry.

Personally, I think you're experiencing some spasticity in your leg.  The muscle is so tight that you can't force it to be straight, so you're walking funny.
