I get disoriented in crowds when they are moving around me too! And when my balance is particularly bad, since I can't dodge anymore, I freeze ,which has its own dangers. I just figure my CNS doesn't handle so much input at one time, very well anymore.
I often just prefer to have my cane for crowds - I'm not thrilled by needing it but not devastated either - I am not falling down yet and I value un-banged-up state over my vanity, by far. Somehow that extra balance input by way of my arm, reduces the stress on my balance neurons/muscles/whatevers. ;-)
I get extra off balance and overwhelmed in busy environments, still no diagnosis, but I do have a vestibular deficit. It's very discouraging, sorry you are experiencing those symptoms.

Just thought of something have you had any vision changes? Not MS or do any of your medications make your blood pressure lower? I have ridiculously low blood pressure due to meds.

Oh just great :(. .. Is that vocoder end part of the spinal cord?
It might be a brain stem lesion. May be something about theaters is disorienting.
