MRI Results

I was having severe burst of pain on the center of the right side of my head. The pain lasted about 15-30 seconds each time and occurred about 2-3 times in an hour. the doctor ordered an MRI without contrast and the results were as follows;

There are at least 10 focal areas of increased T2/Flair signal intensity in the periventricular and subcortical white matter which are non specific in a patient this age. These areas can result from a remote inflammatory, infectious, or traumatic event. Early small vessel disease and demyelination can have a similar appearance.

I got a head injury in 1989, and was thinking maybe it was scar tissue or something from that. I've never had any problems with migraines. I'm 47.

I just don't understand what ny of this means.

I'm no doctor, but the symptom you describe sound as much like migraine as anything else, IMHO.  Does the radiological report, or the pictures, indicate that these hyperintense spots are on one side?  Does it say anything about their shape or size?

I'm agreeing with the migraine idea.  Sometimes a CT will also help and you might consider some eye exams.  You mention a head injury.  Ws any CT, x-ray or MRIs done after that?

No, all it says is that it's 10 focal points. Wouldn't I feel it if it were a migraine? These burst of pain only about 15 seconds. It would be quite a relief to me if it were migraines. I haven't seen the images, yet.

I've had a recent eye exam. The head injury was back in 1989. The back of my head hit a tree in an auto accident. I was just thinking maybe scar tissue has developed since then. The MRI I had last week was the first one since 1989.

you didn't say what type of doctor you went to.  Might let a neuro look at them if you have not seen one yet.

I went to my general doctor. My first appt with a neuro is in 2 weeks. I guess I'm feeling kind of anxious about having to wait so long to get any answers, especially based on what th MRI report stated about the things it COULD be, as I listed in my original post.
