MS and Vitamin Supplements

Hello

I recently got diagnosed with MS. I am currently taking Copaxone daily injections. I'm also taking a multivitamin and Vit D (2000 IU) supplement as instructed by my neurologist. I was wondering if taking fish oil omega 3 supplements would also be good for my health. I've heard great things about fish oil vitamins. I haven't talked to my doctor about this yet, but I will next week. I just wanted to hear other people's opinions on fish oil and MS. If yes, what doses are generally safe?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Leslie,

The OMS diet that I am on prescribes that I take 20mls of fish oil per day, Vit B complex, plus 8000iu of Vit D because I'm around 85kgs. I have just had my Vit B and D levels checked and they confirm I'm okay.

The fish oil is generally 20 x 1000mg capsules per day for the first 9months then you can go straight to 20mls of flaxseed oil. Otherwise a tin of John West sardines gives you the same hit of omega3 but is very tasty.

Blessings
Alex

Certainly can.

Vitamen D you need 5000 international units (iu) for a 50kgs person per day. I take as liquid drops if I'm not sitting in my underpants in the sun for 20 minutes each day.

Vitamen B 6 & 12. I take a high potentency B complex tablet each day, sorry can't remember the strength.

20mls is equivilent to about 1.5 tablespoons of flaxseed oil per day, or 20 capsules of fish oil that is 1000 milligrams in strenghth.

The difference with Swank and OMS is in the latest research. Either diet will work.

Hey Alex,

Thanks for this response. Very helpful. I'm new to all this stuff so do you think you could define all these classifications of kgs, mls, mg, iu. And what do you mean by 20 X 1000mg per day for the first 9 months. I know someone who takes 1000mg, is that the same thing? And what's the OMS diet? My doctor recommended the Swank diet, what's the difference?
