EP results

Just wondering.... I had EP's done and they came back normal...I haven't went to discuss my results with the neurologist but these tests along with mris of the spine are being done as he gave me a default diagnosis of ms until the tests come back to confirm.

My question is if I was suffering from double vision, and  light sensitivity for a example during my latest episode would that not have affected the optic nerve? And would that not have shown up on the visual test? or can you still get a normal result even after experiencing these symptoms during a relapse?

If so does this make it harder to confirm the diagnosis?

This double vision was only a small portion of my episodes, I had several more symptoms however I was just using that as a example. :)

I would expect, for double vision to be neurologically caused, the evidence would still be evident, regardless of being in an episode or not. Keep in mind that double vision isn't only caused by optic nerve damage, nystagmus is an alternative neurological cause but that would have also shown up. IF your visual tests are coming up normal, there is a more likely expectation that its one of the other causes......

I have heaps of articles saved if you want those specifically regarding MS i'll pas them on later today.

I was not going through the episode during my EP so would it have still showed up or only during the episode? Thanks

I agree with Alex. My double vision was specifically internuclear opthalmoplegia and had to do with the brain stem. It was diagnosed by having two eyes that pointed in different directions. The optic neuritis I had (different eye, different episode) was objectively diagnosed by a pale optic disc and a pupil that did bupkis when a light was shone in it. I've never had any evoked potentials. I actually had to google was EP was. I can't say what my results would have been had I been given an EP during these episodes.

Double Vision would have turned up on the EP if it was neurological.. It would not necessarily be the Optic Nerve. It might be the brain stem. You could see a Neuro Othalmologist but if nothing is showing up on the EP or MRI that might do no good but I do not know. It is going to make it harder for a diagnosis. It might mean going to the neurologist every six months to a year and repeating tests unless the neurologist is certain it is MS.
