Medication & Hyperreflexes

Could any one tell me if Lyrica or Amitriptyline would dull down my brisk reflexes?

One of the reasons my neuro considered my symptoms may be MS was because I had brisk reflexes.

I have been to see the neuro rehab team and in there summary it said my reflexes were normal. I actaully don't remember the dr doing them. They refered me to a neuro physio, who pointed out the way my right foot reacts to being scratched underneath is far from normal.

I pointed out to her that the letter from the neuro rehab team was misleading and she said she could see that and something about the mediacation I was taking. But I didn't quite see the relativity of what she was saying at the time.

So can you great people help?
Thanks

They are prescribed for neuropathic pain, which includes burning sensation, pins and needles serve pressure type numbness, muscle twitches and so on.

I just felt the neuro physio was saying as I was taking this medication I would not have the brisk reflexes that were present at the onset of my symptoms. I just wasn't sure that is what she implied.

Thanks for your help.

Did your doctor who prescribed you Lyrica and Amitriptyline tell you the implications or reasons why he/she was prescribing it to you? Lyrica is prescribed for seizures, Fibromyalgia, diabetic neuropathy,  or other neuropathy associated diseases.  Amitriptyline is in the class of antidepressants which can be used for neuropathic pain as well.

I'm not sure if it would dull your brisk reflexes or not -- I would place a call to your doctor and ask him/her if it can cause your reflexes to be dull.  In my experience I've seen people who are on serotoninergic agents have myoclonus activity or referred to as serotonin syndrome.

I wish I could help more but I'm pretty limited on "ALL" of the effects of Lyrica and Amitriptyline.

Best wishes
