I've had my teeth fillings for 8 years and I've been having different symptoms throughout those years recently more of visual disturbances negative after images, double vision, my peripheral vision is staticy in a way but I have ok sight also I have flashes of light in daylight with some light sensitivty. Could this be mercury poisoning ?

I have MS. In the course of my disease, I've had double vision and blindness.

I have never had a cavity, ergo no fillings past or present. The cult of mercury poisoning being an issue as related to fillings and vaccines is simply not backed up by science.

Hi there,

Your said.... "opthamologist says nothing wrong, healthy optic nerve so on......I keep having eye exams from my opthamologist but he doesn't see anything wrong"....if the health of your eye's are perfectly normal, what you are experiencing is not likely to be related to your vision and might be more consistent with something like migraine, which you could discuss with your GP.

In regards to whether it could be 'mercury poisoning' from your fillings, this theory specifically falls into the category of being a medical myth or medical scam, there isn't any foundation to it but regardless of the lack of scientific evidence people still believe removing their fillings will cure everything....

"CONCLUSION
The current use of amalgam has not posed a health risk apart from allergic reactions in few patients. Clinical justifications have not been available for removing clinically satisfactory amalgam restorations, except in patients allergic to amalgam constituents. Mercury hypersensitivity is an immune response to very low levels of mercury. There is no evidence that mercury released from amalgams results in adverse health effects in the general population. "Not surprisingly, the broadcast triggered an avalanche of queries to dentists and induced many viewers seek replacement of their fillings with other materials. Consumer Reports, American Health, Prevention, and many health newsletters reassured their readers that amalgam is safe. But the program's damage cannot be undone. In August, Consumer Reports published the following letter:

"My mother, who was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease more than two years ago, had her mercury fillings removed immediately after the show aired. After she had spent $10,000 and endured more than 18 hours of dental work so painful she once fainted in the waiting room, her condition did not improve. The pain was outweighed only by the monumental disappointment she and the whole family experienced as we lived through one false hope."

In 1990, Consumer Reports Books published Health Schemes, Scams, and Frauds, a book on quackery...." http://www.quackwatch.com/01QuackeryRelatedTopics/mercury.html

Cheers......JJ

I am not familiar with Mercury Poisoning so I do not know. There used to be something on the internet about old fillings causing MS. That has been proven wrong. If you had optic neuritis or double vision from a neurological condition the optometrist of othamologist would be able to tell.  Those are the only eye issues associated with MS.

If you are worried about neurological problems you can start with a GP doing a neurological exam. If it is abnormal then you would go to a neurologist. You may a ready be seeing a neurologist if this has been going on 8 years. If you have ever had optic neuritis it would show up when an optometrist or opthalmologist looks at the back of your eye or on a MRI.
If you had double vision with MS for 8 years it would most likely be permanent by now. The damage would be in the brain not in the eye itself.

Like I said I know nothing of mercury poisoning except that it would be neurological damage but not MS.
