Ticklish sensation in feet while trying to sleep

I feel a ticklish sensation in my feet when i try to sleep, which results in me lying on the bed for hours waiting for the sleep to finally come. I do have the same feeling in my hands but not always. The vibration (i dont know if thats what it is called) i normally have below my eyes or with my arm or leg and its sometimes really annoying. I have been having back ache for years now but it used to get better with passing time. Of late i have been facing problems with my energy levels, getting restless for no reason, lack of appitite and headaches which kinda keep coming back. i have not taken any medication (even for headaches) for almost 5 years now. I do smoke (regularly) and drink occasionally and am not really good with my eating habits (i am 32 years old...if this information helps).

Regards,

Arun

I have had the same thing when i lay on my stomach. My chiropractor said that it is kind of like a pinched nerve in my lower back. I would advise going To a chiropractor and see what they say. It really helped me.

I thought I was the only one with tickling like feeling in my feet and palms. It happened when I was a kid maybe 10 or so. I am not 41 years old woman. Since a month every night when I go to sleep this problem has resurfaced. Don't know what to do. I have been having sleepless nights since then. I am frustrated and no solution seems to be there on hand. Somebody please help.

I don't have the ticklish sensation in my feet;just the sensation like I must stretch, stretch and stretch!

I went to the website and looked at the splint you wear at night;those are really nice!I have a soft boot splint that I wore when having a problem with plantar faciitis..I wish I had 2 of them! I have gotten relief by pressing my feet into the arm of my couch for a few minutes.

I have the same problem and use night splints to press up on my feet during sleep. Works wonders..

These are the ones I use: http://www.ossur.com/?PageID=13533

Hi.  I've experienced this same problem many times.  And I believe I've finally found the trigger:  too much vitamin D.  I normally only supplement with vitamin D during the winter time.  If I over do it, and especially if I supplement too much in the summer, I seem to get that ticklish sensation in my right foot.  It almost always happens at night.  It think it's a muscle cramp.  If I watch my foot when it happens, I can see my toes involuntarily stretch.  Weird.  Very annoying.  Since I stopped taking vitamin D during the summer, I haven't had any problems.  So I'm reasonably confident that's the problem.

I hope this helps you.  I know how frustrating that problem is.

I've had a similar thing for years in my feet only.  It completely stopped about 1.5 - 2.0 years ago when I started doing the following things.  I take 2mg daily of diazapam for positional vertigo.  I think it helps but doesn't cure it.  I started stretching my calf and hamstring muscles...because I've been active on a treadmill or stair stepper for about 20 - 30 minutes a day  4 - 5 days a week.

With in the last six months I haven't been able to be active on the treadmill.  The sensation returned about a month ago.  To get to sleep now I lay on the couch with my feet pressed against the side so they are at a 90 degree angle to my leg (Perpendicular).  When that doesn't help I rub them on the carpet or a little less smooth blanket.  It takes about five minutes or so.  Try it and increase the time and intensity to see if it helps.  This probable increases the circulation to the feet and lets me sleep.  Increased circulation is probably what the exercise was doing too.

Thanks for your responses.

Initially i used to cover my feet to get over the tickling sensation but now, even that doesnt seem to help. Of late, i am experiencing this tickling sensation in my palms as well. Apart from this, i get restless for no reason, loss of appetite, reduced sleep, weakness and mild headaches. I would be visiting a doctor soon, but before that i wanted to know if any one else is facing the same issues so as to get a better understanding of it.

Most of the times when i have this ticklish sensation in my feet or plam, mere rubbing used to help but now even that doesnt give much relief.

Anyone else experienced the same. I guess its difficult to express this sensation in words....

Regards,

Arun

If you only had this symptom of "ticklish" sensations with twitching, I would say that this was classic restless leg syndrome. It is false to believe that it can only affect the feet. I have a severe case in my feet, legs, hands and wrists up to the elbow. I take Ropinirole and some people take Mirapex, which is similar but more sedating. Sometimes if the attack is very mild, just trying to relax and distract yourself from it. If it perists, try walking around or doing bicycles while lying on the bed or massaging the areas.

My best advice to you is to go to your doctor and get a complete physical to get to the bottom of what is going on with you.

Best Wishes,
Paula
