NECK PAIN AND ER X 2

I was answering happyvalley about neck pain, and wanted to see what you all thought about my weekend.
I suffer with this on a daily basis. My neuro prescribed hydrocodone for the pain and it does not touch it! Matter of
fact the pain was so severe, on thurs and friday, I called the office to get an eariler appt. The doc has to ok this and he was out of the office. Well, I wound up in ER with a horrible migraine yesterday morning early. Husband had to take me back in the afternoon because I could not stop vomiting. The ER doc has seen me before and can not believe I am not yet dx with something. They started an IV and gave me wahts called a migraine cocktail. Kept me till I felt better. Today I feel as though i have been run over by a semi. To top things off my neck is hurting worse. I have horrible pain behind my left eye and feel a headache coming on. I took my meds and now feel like a zombie. I just dont know what to do. If I did not live30 mins from hospital, I think I would get in my car a go. I called the neuro. and of course they take their sweet time getting back to you. The nurse has to ok early appt with doc. GIVE ME A BREAK!
I am suffering and not getting any relief. This is all so fustrating. I'm so dizzy; I feel like I'm going to fall everytime I get up. My left side seems not to want to work today. And the sweats.............are driving me insane! I dont know where to go from here.
Hope you all have better luck than I'm having.

Thank you all for your kind words. My doc changed my migraine meds to KEPPRA for preventive and ATEX to take at the onset of headache. I dont find it to work too well. I was on ESGIC PLUS for years and it worked. Of course if I caught it in time. Tonight I am still not feeling well. Pain in the neck, behind ear, dizzy and nausas. I'm so tired of feeling bad. Of course the doc office did not call me back today! If I'm not feeling better tomorrow, I'm gonna call and raise cane!!
Thanks to everyone for caring!

Blessings,
Beth

hey sweetie,

How you feeling today, i hope your neuro get's you in real soon... my neuro put my on Topamax for the headaches works pretty good if i take it right, if you're into naturla medice valerian root is a natural muscle relaxer try that you have nothing to loose with the pain in your neck, and has no side affects.  let me know how you doing.

{{{{hand shakes for you, don't want to cause no pain}}}}

I forgot to say something about the neck pain.  I suffer from this, but mine is due to bulging discs in my neck.  The only thing that helps is to keep myself from overdoing things that involve my neck and try not to be too tense.

My sister, who has MS, has severe pain in her neck.  She has had oral steroids, has been shot up with steroids, pain medicine, etc. and I think she's finally starting to get some relief.  I don't know what she takes for the pain, off-hand.  Maybe someone on the forum can give you a good recommendation.

Oh, my dear, that is terrible.  I feel for you.  I've suffered for migraines for years.  I was getting migraines on a daily basis (actually twice a day) and I've ended up in the ER with them.

What has helped me was to see a neurologist who specializes in nothing but headaches.  I know longer need to see mine, because they are in good control with only two headaches (mild) a month.  I did have some problems recently, but they were due to new MS medicines and I'm veeling good again.

I was put on a special diet, preventative headache medicines (and were adjusted carefully), got new migraine medicines (the one I have now works in 30 min.!), advised to go off of caffeine.  Because I never took anyone serious about the caffeine, I never tried it before.

However, going off caffeine should be done under the care of your neurologist.  It was not easy--was having extremely bad migraines.  However, this was key in getting them under control.

I was also told to go off all over-the-counter medicines for the headaches (which was also hard to withdrawl from).  I was advised to take only two 1st line medicines, and take only two last line medicines (Maxalt MLT).  After this adjustment period, I was in a much better place.

Anyway, your treatment may be different . . . but the headache neuro did help.

I hope you start feeling better, soon.
