New Here and Need HELP

My boyfriend has a MS, he is 49. He is having trouble getting disability. He also had some disc problems in his back and has been taking percocet for a few years. Recently his Dr. retired and he has been trying to get off the percoets but the with draws and the MS are making it tough.

He has burning pains in his hands and feet. I don't know what to do for him and last week he went to the hospital but they didn't do anything.

I'm at a loss here.

Hi Dove, I  am sorry to hear of your boyfriend's suffering. Like Carol said, we all know...all too well, what suffering is. You are in the right place for support and friendship.
I was a person that had to end up going on disability. It was just not even realistic for me to even think I could do my type of work- landscaping & greenhouse. I can't even accomplish enough to take care of our housework any longer. It was very hard to adjust to mentally.
I ended up being at the 'hearing' stage of the disablity, because they denied my paper appeals. Once the judge actually saw me, and actually looked at the medical records, I won my case. One thing that really stood out for the judge was that I had written statements from my doctor saying there was no way I would be going back to work.

That is a great suggestion from Carol, to have his doctor send him to someone they know and trust, who will go over his records. I would ask for a written statement for his disability. This might help things, just a suggestion.

One medication that really helped with the burning pain was Cymbalta for me, but I did have some weight gain and went off of it. (I have gained more than enough)

All the best,

Jazzy

Hi Dove and welcome.  I'm so sorry about your boyfriend.  We here all know what the pain that he is experiencing feels like.  The first thing he needs to do is get another doctor.  Maybe the doctor that has retired could suggest someone to him.  I hope that he will be seeing someone that specializes in MS.

I'm sure with the burning pain that he has that Lyrica would probably help it.  It has helped the burning pain that I experience wonderfully.  I'm not sure what to say about the percocet only that he apparently does need some type of pain med. so what does he plan to do if he does go off of the percocet?

Honey, I'm sorry that I can't be of more help but maybe someone else will chime in that can help more.

I'll be praying,
Carol
