Not diagnosed, have a few questions.

I am scheduled to have an MRI for some symptoms I have been showing. No doubt these questions have been asked many times.

I have many sensory issues, tingly feelings, twitches. Hot spots, sometimes  a strange feeling like a chill rush in my legs. Some of them are hard to explain. I have some muscle atrophy in my left hand. Weakness. There has been times I felt a numbness in my face and around the mouth, like when you are at the dentist and the freezing is almost gone. Stiffness in the neck and shoulders with pain, getting cramps throughout the body.  Does this sound familiar to MS? I have been worried and of course going to Dr. Google doesn't help the worries.

Thank you in advance.

Heather

I am still waiting for a call.

Thanks!

Yes, I did, all was good. I am still having hand and forearm symptoms. Loss of muscle and strange twitches and vibrations, weakness. I am just letting it go for now. If something serious is going on, it will show in time.

At that size, they really are non-specific for anything, unfortunately.  The twitching isn't typical of ms, but is common with some nutritional deficiencies (like magnesium).  Was your vit D, vit B12 and magnesium checked?

I actually have 4 small bifrontal subcortical white matter hyperintenensities that have occurred in 7 yrs since my last MRI and  these are nonspecific. They are 2 to 4 mm.

THat's interesting ... although were the mris done with the same machine/protocol/software/slices?  It's really difficult to compare and this is enough years that it might not be possible.

My doc isn't the greatest. She said she feels the inflammation is caused from my sinus issue.

I am sure sinus problems don't cause the other issues that are going on, but maybe I am wrong.

When my doc was reading the results I heard her say inflammation from unknown causes. But my left hand is getting worse almost daily and I noticed my forearm has less muscle as well. Tomorrow I should hear from a physio center I want to go to and see if she will take me. I heard she is very good when it comes to neuromuscular problems.

Thank you again for the thought of looking into my life and health!

I'm curious what they meant by inflammation?

Any chance you could have carpal or cubital tunnel syndrome?

No matter what, Physio is a great idea.  The all over twitches could be. Magnesium deficiency -- something to check out.

Glad it's not ms and hopefully you will have some answers soon!

Hello to all those that replied. No MS, but I have inflammation and sinus issues as well. Treating the sinus issues and we will see where that takes me. But I have no explanation as of yet why I have hand weakness and muscle loss and twitches. She wants me to go to physio (even though I have been going to the gym) for this and didn't seem too concerned.

Thanks again for the replies.

Don't be surprised if your ms neurologist orders more ;).  There are some tests that can't be done at a local level.

Ok

Had MRI done, I was getting a lot of strange pulling sensations in the abdomen area. No metal on me what so ever. Told me I should have my results back in a few days.
Heather, I was wondering how things were going for you?  Were you able to get any ideas or information from the mris?
Not as of yet. Nothing. Still a lot of strange things going on. Today at work the bridge of my nose began to twitch, then it felt as if it was being slightly squeezed. Pains in my upper back, felt like a stabbing burning pain. Oh the fun!

Waiting is difficult, and the diagnosis of neurological issues can be a very long wait.  In the  meantime, make sure you've had all the blood work, in particular vitamin D and b12. (Also magnesium).  Deficiencies are surprisingly common and can cause sensory and neurological issues.

You family doctor could do a small neuro exam as well.  The questions that Alex asked you are good ones -- how the symptoms present and duration differ between ms and other causes.  It is also possible to have more than one thing going on.

I waited three years for a diagnosis .. so I completely understand how hard the wait can be.

Hopefully your mri provides you some good news.  Either way you have lots of support here .. (((hugs))).

They could be MS but they could be something else. A neurologist will have to figure it out. Are you seeing a neurologist? Only a neurologist can diagnose MS. How long have you had your symptoms. Do the symptoms last days or weeks or do they come and go? Did you have a neurological exam that is reflexes and such? That is important. You might want to keep a symptom journal of when you get symptoms and how long they last. Keep it brief.

Thank you Alex, no neurologist yet. My family doc scheduled me for an MRI and that will be next week. I have had these symptoms for over 2 months now. Nothing is easing up. Gets so annoying with this waiting game.  Thanks again
