OT, My old dog is at Rainbow Bridge

He was 14 years old.  He had one eye, was deaf and hadn't any teeth and he was the joy of my Honey's life.  I adopted him from the shelter.  They gave him to me the day before he was to be euthanized.  He was too old and too ugly for anyone to want to adopt.  He had been shaved to his skin at that time because he was so matted.  Someone just dropped him off at the shelter in the dark of a rainy night.  He sat until morning with no shelter.  That makes me angry.

Anyway, he was a wonderful companion.  For an old dog he had spunk but the last 4 or 5 months we could tell what was coming.

Today I celebrate the time I had with him  He will be missed more than anyone would imagine unless they have experienced it themselves.

To my Captain Jack so after Johnny Depp's character because he had only one eye.  Honey named him.

Love you Jack, Mom.

Terry,

I am sorry for your loss and proud to have a friend that cares and loves the animals that others just throw away!

My best friend was an unwanted German Shepherd that they had named PITA for pain in the .... Well we took her in when she was 4 and she was all skin and bones and in need of love.

We were blessed with 9 years with her bringing us as much love and happiness as we were able to give to her.

I hope our doggies are together and pain free now. I know that we will always have them in our hearts.

Hugs,
Erin :)

Terry, I too know exactly how it feels to lose a furry friend, having been through that twice now, and many other times with family and friends.

My first and always favorite was a who-knows mutt with a lot of hound in him. He bayed gleefully just to see us come home, and he was the sweetheart of all sweethearts. We saved him from euthanasia and took care of this utterly cool dog for 8 years after that, till he got too sick to save.

I know you have other dogs but there never will be another Jack. A happy way of remembering him and the others who have gone is to send a donation in their names to your local shelter or humane society at Christmas.

My thoughts and prayers are with you on the loss of Jack.  There is nothing quite like the love of a dog, particularly the unconditional love.  Sounds like you were both lucky to have found one and another...He will always be with you in your heart,
Hugs to you,
Michelle

Saveone,

I am so sorry for your loss! Being a *dad* to 2 rescue dogs myself, I know the unconditional love and gratitude they give! There isn't much I can say to heal your pain and grief, but please know you are in my thoughts.

One thing that helped me through the loss of 2 of my previous dogs is making a photo collage. I hope this helps!

Terry, I have no words to do justice to the memory of Jack, nor to your heroism in rescuing the little guy so long ago.  May you and your Honey be warmed by your memories, and by the thought of him running free, as Heather said.

I am so, so sorry.  Thank God that he was able to spend time with someone who loved him, instead of being put down at the shelter.  People like you, make the world a happy place to live in.  God Bless you sweetheart and your precious Jack.

Run like the wind, Jack and most of all, enjoy the sights and all the other doggies and kitty's that have crossed that "Rainbow Bridge," before you.  Run free...

Sending big hugs your way.  I DO know your pain and dern it, it hurts like the dickens.

Much Love,
Heather
