OT....cell phone, which one?

My contract is up on on my cell phone on May 2nd...just need some suggestions to help me decide which phone I should get.  I know nothing about cell phones now and my brain is all messed up but I still enjoy working with techie stuff.  Once I saw someone on here talking about a smart phone.

I don't know how well your hands work, but I went with the Droid 3 (they now have a Droid 4 with 4G LTE if you want it) because it has a slide out keyboard. sometimes for some reason, maybe my lack of nerve sensation, my touch screen is not very responsive and having a slide out keyboard option makes it easier to type when I need it.

I know lots of companies are offering the slide out option now.  I am kinda a phone freak and I do really suggest looking online at sights that are 3rd party phone retailers as they often have phones much cheaper than the stores.

The sight I use has a much better ins option as well.  The stores require a deductible to get a broken phone replaced under ins where the other sights offer ins plans with no deductible.  Just throwing that out there.

But no matter what, the smartphone is the best way to go.  I use it to get all my appt and med reminders, looking up any place I need a phone number for, writing my grocery list and much more

Good luck

Well, I ordered the phones, they work both in 4G and 3G networks.  I sounds like fun...its always harder now with the loss of my brain power.LOL

You have been a lot of help to me in finding this phone. I had no idea about cell phones except for making calls.

Be aware that the "4G" part is only of benefit if you are in the 4G coverage area, which on the Verizon coverage map is only urban areas, although about 250 of them. At least you're actually paying nothing for the phones ... unless you absolutely have to have the trendiest phone there's seldom any reason to pay for a cell phone. They make their money off of us with the monthly charges.

I have never paid for any app on my phone (HTC Droid Incredible). Lots of good apps for free, the catch is that for some we have to look at advertising. And certainly protect your phone and your privacy, download only reputable apps from reputable sites.

Hi DB,

Thanks for your suggestion...I am looking at the DROID CHARGE by Samsung - 4G LTE for Verizon Wireless.  I am getting them through Wirefly so I end up paying nothing for the two phones.

Just a question, how much do end up paying out for and apps you may add to the phone ?  I have always used just a normal ole phone...the basics.

thanks, meg

I just traded in my Blackberry Bold for an iPhone 4S.  Wish I had done it sooner, I love it.  The touch pad is not as difficult to use with my clumsy fingers as I thought it would be.  Love that I get all my iTunes on it eliminating the need for my iPod when I travel.  I transferred all my medical info on it so I have everything I need in one place.  Planning on doing some travelling next month and am downloading all kinds of cools apps that are so easy to use.  Thumps up, Apple.  :)
