Optic nerve swelling right eye. Had symptoms 13 years

Hi all.

I am in need of some help please

I have had crippling ongoing symptoms of multiple sclerosis since i was 17 1/2

I was told i was too young to have MS, my optic disc "looked fine" and according to the gp that meant i don't have it at 17.

I am now 30.

I have hundreds of symptoms now and it has genuinely destroyed my life and it seems i am no closer to getting and clarity, or transparency from drs

My question is this.

On a recent eye test the optician described swelling the optic nerve of my right eye.

He did not say anything else and did not give a medical term for this.

What is the medical term for this? Isn't swelling on the optic nerve behind the disc literally optic neuritis  ?

Its been there a long time as the colours in that eye are damaged and faded out from the first attack at 17

I have been palmed off over the years, told its stress, anxiety, a continual migraine aura without the migraine. I've been told absolutely anything and whole heartedly dismissed

Absolutely exhausted and too tired to fight this anymore i am wondering if anyone can give me a straight answer

Thank you

Hi and welcome,

"On a recent eye test the optician described swelling the optic nerve of my right eye.

Q:What is the medical term for this?
A: Generally 'edema' is the medical term for swelling but inflammation or Papill-edema are the basic medical terms for swelling of the optic nerve.

Q: Isn't swelling on the optic nerve behind the disc literally optic neuritis  ?
A: Well no not literally because Optic Neuritis (ON) is not the only medical condition associated with swelling  (inflammation) of the optic nerve. Think of Optic Neuritis (ON) as basically being what can happen after inflammation has damaged the optic nerve, but the swelling (inflammation) though can be caused by many different conditions.

When looking for a diagnosis out of medical limbo, its possible to inadvertently make assumptions or apply more meaning to comments that get made by medical personal so unless whats mentioned is also in your file and or backed up with the corroborating abnormal diagnostic test evidence I wouldn't put any value to it.

What type of abnormal test evidence do you have from over the last decade plus? Keep in mind there are many different medical conditions that cause the same or similar symptoms that are associated with MS so it's possible that collectively the abnormal evidence you have will point more towards what it could be.

Hope that helps.......JJ
