PLEASE HELP! I NEED A 'GOOD' NEURO DR IN TOPEKA KANSAS AREA

I'M A RECENT NEWBIE TO THIS FORUM AND I'M DESPERATE!!  CAN ANYONE PLEEEAAASE TELL ME IF YOU KNOW OF A "CARING" NEUROLOGIST IN THE TOPEKA KANSAS OR SURROUNDING AREAS...EVEN KANSAS CITY?   MY DR I HAVE NOW WON'T LISTEN TO ME AND I NOW KNOW HE'S A TOTAL QUACK AND HAS NO CLUE ABOUT MY SYMPTOMS AND PUTTING THEM "ALL TOGETHER."  TRUST ME...HE REALLY IS A QUACK.

PLEASE KEEP IN MIND I HAVE NO HEALTH INSURANCE OF ANY KIND BUT WE MAKE A FEW THOUSAND DOLLARS TOO MUCH PER YEAR TO GO TO ANY 'POOR FOLKS' CLINICS.  I'M STUCK BETWEEN A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE AND DON'T KNOW WHERE TO TURN.  ALL THESE HORRIBLE SYMPTOMS I FEEL HAVE BEEN OFF AND ON FOR ALMOST 20 YEARS, BUT HAVE BEEN NEARLY CONSTANT NOW FOR ABOUT FOUR MONTHS AND ARE GETTING WORSE.

PLEASE, PLEASE HELP.  ANY ADVICE OR HELP I CAN GET WILL BE GREATLY, GREATLY APPRECIATED.

I wish I could help, too, I live south of you, in Wichita, and I trust my Neurologist, who Dx'd me.  I had insurance, when I was diagnosed, but subsequently with the loss of my job, also lost my health insurance, and even though, I automatically qualified for Social Security Disability, it took several months, even after their decision, I was told, that they have a 2 year waiting period for Medicare, so I still have no health insurance, but he still wants me to see him, he only charges me $50.00 a visit.  Obviously, you cannot pay for MRI's, etc. heck, neither can I, but he has been dealing with MS patients for almost 30 years.

Thanks to all of you for caring enough to answer me back.  I'm sorry it took so long to get back with you.  I've been dealing with vertigo among other issues and haven't been able to look at the computer screen let alone read and type.  Socrates2k1, I picked yours as the best answer cuz Wichita is only a few hours from us and like you, I have no health insurance.  You let me know what I'm basically in for and I appreciate that.  I'm truly, deeply sorry for all the trouble you've had to go through as well.  We're not alone!  (:
Take care all and be blessed,
Diana

Hi Diana,

A couple of us here go to the Rocky Mtn MS Center in Aurora, CO.  I know that's pretty far away from Topeka - maybe 8 hrs????
But, hey, we're only a state away from you.....

Good luck to you finding a good MS neuro,
Kelly

You may have to travel a bit to find one in your area - MS specialists are a pretty rare breed.

Good luck with finding something other than a quack!
