Michelle,

I'm too new to all of this to be sure of anything.  I will say that it's a lot worse in one eye and in that eye the colors are washed out.  Maybe a bit washed out in the left eye too, (for sure it hurts) but can't compare that one to anything better so I'm not sure. I test this out every now and then by looking at the red curtains in my kitchen and lately they're more of a brown in the right eye.

Wednesday does seem to be really far away.  I might try to get in before that.  It's tricky to navigate the health system over here.  Spices things up a bit. ;)

Thanks so much once again....

Hugs,
Laura

laura,

R u sure the pain is from ON?  there r other reasons they may hurt.  I would call the original ophthalmologist u saw and get in there ASAP.  Even though he doesn't "deal" with ON, doesnt mean he can't help u.

He can check to see if any other reason for ur eye pain, and if it is ON, give a call to a diff. Doc to start steroids.  Wednesday is too late to wait, in my opinion.

There r lots of reasons that may cause inflammation to the eye.

I am sorry u r going thru this...

Michelle
No, there r not steroid drops for ON, but they can be used for inflammation In your eyes.

Hi Michelle,

I do have a great ophthalmologist.  He's actually the one who gave me the dx of ON back in January (which my old neuro promptly tossed out as impossible).  The down side is that once he referred me to my new neurologist it was all the help he could give me.  If neuro-ophthalmologists exist here I haven't found any.  When I went to the ER they sent me to see the hospital ophthalmologist who said he didn't deal with ON, but I did get an exam to rule out just about everything else (even glaucoma). ha.

My new neuro has been pretty good so far and is working on setting up some kind of treatment for ON as far as I undderstand from our last conversation.  I see him on Wednesday if I can stay out of the ER until then.  Do the steroid drops help ON?  The hospital ophthalmologist said they don't, but I have found online that a lot of people say they heelp and that doc's opinions, etc are almost as dubious as my first neuro.  (Coincidentally they are in the same little hospital here near my house.)

Fingers crossed that it doesn't get any worse before I see my neuro Wed!

Thanks again,
Laura

Hi Laura,

Do u have a ophthalmologist?  I am "assuming" u do.  I would call ASAP and have them look at you.  There r steroid eye drops that might help, depending what is going on w ur eyes.  I would call right away.   You need an eye doc to see u.

Good luck to u,

Michelle

Thanks for the support!  I dug out a pair of prescription sunglasses that are very light and I'm wearing them around the house.  It does seem like it's helping. Thanks for the tip! The sunlight is really bothersome too, so I'm just staying inside this weekend and that's probably helping too.  I have to wait until Wednesday to know what my doctor says about the IVSM.  The doc I talked to works with him, but couldn't order anything since she isn't assigned to me and has to run it by my doctor first.  At least having the prednisone leveled out again is helping some though. Someone suggested getting NSAID eye drops.  Have any of you had any experience with this?

Thanks for the well wishes!  I appreciate you guys taking the time to answer my post. :)

Take care,
Laura

Dogmum,
I hope the steroids help! I absolutely hate ON issues it seriously is one of the worst pains I have ever experienced. I now have eye sensitivity to light all the time. After your flare is over a couple of ways I have coped with ON and lasting effects is by wear light sunglasses indoors and dark ones outside all the time. I also use acupuncture which has also helped with my eye sensitivity and optical migraines that I now get.

Also my eye doc alway tells me if I am questioning if I'm having an ON flare to remember that we only get one set of eyes and once the sight is gone there gone so it's always better to be safe than sorry! I'm sooooo glad you went in and are getting treatment. :) sending you positive thoughts for a speedy recovery.

Thanks so much for reading and replying, JJ.. In hindsight, I'm not sure why I asked here, but I realized I needed to see a doctor. This is all just so new to me.. I get tremors, worse when I'm tired, but never had them like that before and last time my eyes hurt so bad I lost a good part of my sight.. (came back with steroids thankfully)

It would seem that the shakes I had yesterday were exacerbated by coming down off of prednisone so quickly after being on it for 3 months and likely the eye pain as well was the old issue flaring up again too now that the steroids are coming down.. One of the neuros from my new neurologist's office that I talked to said that long term oral steroids help ON, but not like high dose ivst. which she wants me to start..

Again, sorry to post in such a state.. I should have just done what I had to do and gone to the ER. I'm just so darn sick of that place and was hoping that there was some sort of solution I could do on my own that I just didn't know about yet. :) Thanks again for reading and reeplying though..

I'm not sure if it really makes a difference if this is a new issue or an old one, because i'd still say the same thing, call your optho or neuro or GP. Your sight is really important and i personally think you need a profesional to help you with this one.

Sorry I probably havent responded soon enough or been of much help, its actually early morning over on my side of the world, so i missed it.

Hugs...........JJ
