Post LP Blues

I had my LP Thursday, and had to call off work Friday and today.  Why? That ol' incapacitating headache blues (I'm fine on my back).  Vertical, I'm brought to tears!  The pain is absolutely excruciating!  The LP itself was a piece of cake.  Really quite easy.  So the question is - how long do I wait before calling my neurologist?  I'm drinking plenty of water and coffee (I've got this really buzzy Venezuelan stuff), peeing more than adequately, and taking 600 - 800 mg Ibuprofen q 4 hrs.

LuLu, perhaps you could use your songwriting chops on this?  You're really good!

TIA

Thanks for the advice, folks.  I'm calling my doc tomorrow am (I'm supposed to work - I don't know how I can).  This morning, in crazy pain, I gave a 5 minute audition in an open field surrounded by redwoods. This is for a wedding in August.  Solo fingerstyle/classical guitar, unamplified.  I took my loudest guitar, and when I wasn't actually playing, I lay flat in the grass and talked to the bride and her mother.  The bride is flying back to Ohio tomorrow, so today was my only opportunity.  They hired me :^)

I've been flat in bed ever since.  800 mg Ibuprofen isn't even touching this.  I'm slamming down coffee and eating chocolate.

Hopefully tomorrow, I'll feel better.
Thanks again,

Hi GG
Sorry you got that vice grip headache!  I know that the doctors vary on when they will do a blood patch.  I agree - if it gets worse call right away or wait until Monday morning.  The doctor I saw for the blood patch let me know that the LP headache CAN last up to 6 weeks!!!  Mine was for 8 days.  Stay as flat as you can & take care.  Keep us posted.

There is no reason to be miserable.  Call your doc. and ask for a patch.  Headaches from leaks are miserable.  K

Hi GG,
So sorry to hear you are suffering - especially with a perfectly good weekend going on here.  Try to stay flat but if it still persists by Monday morning, call your doc.  If you have increased pain before then, consider going to the ER, ok?

A tune titled
that ol' incapacitating LP headache blues ...........

it has distinct top 40 hit possibilities.  Perhaps I'll turn some out in my head while I go mow the lawn!

i waited 5 days, tossed in the towel, called my local neuro. he wanted me to wait another day before calling in a blood patch. after the 6th day the headache scenario started to subside, slowly. in the Navy they would do the patch on day of call or next day of request. instant relief. now a days one waits, i'll cynically assume that is due to money.

it does go away, hang in there and just try to lay around for a few more days...
