Im in Indiana & know that MRI's can cost any where from $300 to $5000. It depends what all they are going to scan (head, neck, back), if they will be useing contrast, & if it is reg MRI or wide open. If insurence is an issue, talk to neuro about it, sometimes they will re-duce the cost.
Hope this helps! :)
My 3T brain and c-spine at OSU in Ohio was billed at $7,419.00. This was with and without contrast.
Anthem Blue Cross, my insurance company, paid OSU $1,715.93 as the allowable amount.
I don't know what the cost in Connecticut would be - is she thinking of packing you up and shipping you out to the east coast?
as always,
L
Thanks, her question was about a knee MRI, was work related. I found a chart that listed a range for various body parts.
I didn't know, though I've had dozens of various MRIs, because my insurance covers them totally, so I don't get EOBs. Hmm, OHSU may have sent one, but they just did the 3T of my brain, c and t spine, and that wouldn't have helped her anyway.
She believes that you guys know everything, if I don't know it myself, since we've had to see so many doctors and have so many tests. I sure know more than I did a couple of years ago!
Wow, Lulu, that is obscenely expensive! I don't suppose OSU would write any of that off?

Kathy,
Sorry if that put you into shock - the rest of the story is -
With my insurance I only pay 10% of the negotiated amount and not the billed amount. So my share of this bill was $171.59.
I hope that takes care of the sticker shock. That is also why I try to always advise anyone without insurance to negotiate the amount they can pay for a medical bill.

Lulu,
Sorry to drag up this old post, but I was going through some paperwork and found some EOBs that OHSU had sent me.
My brain, c and t spine MRI with contrast was billed at $8,833.00, so OHSU beats OSU at high prices!
The contrast was $80.00 of it. What a hoot!
Until you consider all the people whose insurance doesn't pay for necessary tests like these. I'm glad you've shared information about getting facilities to reduce their charges.
:o)
Kathy
.... mine didn't include the T-spine, just the C-spine... so probably image for image I have your cost beat!! LOL
Did you ever find the cost of a knee MRI in Connecticut?
Its good to see you around - I hope you're here more.
