Rebif and vaginal yeast infection

Has anyone on rebif experienced recurring vaginal yeast infections?  Have not had this problem in past.  Blood sugar is also elevated, no family history of diabetes.  Just wondering if the Rebif might be contributing to these problems.

I was on Rebif successfully for about 7 years and all of the sudden, I was getting yeast infection-like symptoms. This went on for 7 months. I went to 3 different doctors, multiple appointments and they kept telling me, "You are fine."  I was tested for everything and they could not figure it out. It ended up being the Rebif. I did notice a jelly like discharge or thin clear discharge but it had never bothered me. Then it started burning. I stopped the Rebif and went back to normal. I did have one actual yeast infection since -it seems this whole process really threw off the chemistry of my vaginal area. Talk to your MS doc. Perhaps stopping and giving yourself a break may help. I've been stable and may never go back on any medication after this experience. Trying to treat it with the Wahls Protocol.

Chronic infections can be a sign of diabetes. Are they testing your further regarding the elevation in blood sugar?

I've only been on Rebif a short time and as yet, have had no problems like what you describe.

How long have you been on Rebif?

Hi!  I am not sure if we have met.  Welcome!  I feel like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz so often here.  "People come and go so quickly here!"  Mostly they come and stay, thank goodness!  If you've been here long, I apologize.

My sister-in-law has a terrible time with vaginal yeast infections, to the point that she has gone out of state to see specialists.  This may sound ridiculous, but I do believe that yeast feeds on sugar, so perhaps if your blood sugar was under control, it would help with the yeast.  I have no idea if the Rebif makes glucose fluctuate.  You need to know.

Something my sister-in-law always tried in addition to daily medications such as Diflucan (which is NOT usually taken daily!!), was yogurt.  Her doc recommended yogurt with active cultures to try to help maintain some kind of natural bacterial balance.

We have many friends who come from India, and they have given us marvelous yogurt "starter" you might call it.  It's active cultures.  And then you add it to milk, and it makes yogurt.  It's kept warm in a just warmer than tepid oven.  But at your grocer, look for something with "active cultures."  I wonder if Activia might have them.

But, call your doctor's office for sure, and get your sugar under control.  Pronto!

Hugs,

Zilla*
