Rebif + bruising. Is this an urgent issue?

I switched to Rebif from Copaxone about 3 months ago (due to a pretty rough relapse while on the Copaxone, my neuro wanted to switch me to a more aggressive treatment.)

I've had muscle aches, redness & bruising at the shot sites, and burning with the shot, but I've been ignoring those because I feel the pros of the medicine far outweigh the discomfort from the shots.

I've always bruised pretty easily because I'm very pale-skinned. But, lately the bruises are getting ridiculous. They are completely unexplained (like bruising on the tops of my feet, and on my forearm) and some of them are pretty tender.

I read on the Rebif site that blood issues and bruising can be one of the side effects.

I will go in to see my neuro and get checked out...but my question is: Is this a completely urgent issue or can I put it off until next week? I have a ton going on this week, and would rather not try to squeeze in a trip to the neuro, too :-(
Thanks!
Jess

Hey Jess,

The Rebif could be a contributor. And, if you are taking anything like Advil, or naproxen to avoid side affects that too may contribute (or the combo).

Sounds like a good blood workup/panel is in order for you. CBC, etc. Doesn't sound urgent, but definitely good to see if bloods are in range :) next week.

I do bruise more often too for what it's worth - I believ mine is because of the combo (rebif and naprox, and advil). But, my bloods check out good, go figure.

I take Rebif and also have the bruising. I finally asked to be checked for anemia and found I am very anemic. I am thinking its from the Rebif and am seriously considering stopping it. I have been on it around ten years and noticed the bruising getting worse but was never checked for anemia

I would definitely call your neuro to let them know what's going on.  They might have suggestions and will let you know if it's an issue that needs to be looked at right away or not.

Best wishes!
