Severe pain in back of head

I was diagnosed with MS in 2009 I have on Baclofen and have been on and off steroids several times which helps somewhat.

Last night while in bed reading i suffered a severe pain in the back of my head from the base of my head up about 2 inches 50mm and around to each ear. This pain lasted for about 5 mins and thien went away. My wife tells me for about 10 to 15 secs i was shaking like i was being hit with electricity.

Has anyone had this type of pain before?

My Doctor thinks it is a progression of my MS.

Hi there,

There are some posts about this that have moved to page 2 but what you are describing sounds like TN - Trimangil neuraligia sp? or perhaps occipital neuralgia.  Both these conditions are caused by the nerves either on your face (TN) or the back of your neck (ON).  I have similar pain both from the back of my neck as you decribed and in my face, eye sockets, jaw ...

The other night while watching tv I got the sharp excruciating pain in my right eye and I started to cry.  My hubby asked whats wrong and I told him it is like someone is driving a screwdriver deep into my eye socket and then stops.  This one lasted longer than usual - about 30 seconds of torture - not fun.

If you can get into your doctor/neuro there are medications that can help this.  I am seeing mine monday.  Hope that helps.  I have found it helpful to just know there are others who understand how painful this can be.  Take care, Anna
