Shaving?

I'm having a problem when shaving have been for a while now. Every time I put the shaving cream on my face my left eye will start to burn and get red like I got soap in my eye even though I didn't. It never happens with the right eye ( my good eye).  After a lot of experiments to solve this the only thing I can come up with is it is the fumes from the shaving cream that is causing this.

So I am wondering if anyone hear know of something I can use for shaving that doesn't have the soapy fumes?

OK I know I could try switching to an electric razor as some of you might suggest. But I have problems with them as well that include cutting the tip of my nose. OK you can stop laughing now. LOL  The main problem with the electric shaver is again fumes from the pre-shave lotions. Those fumes make me light headed and dizzy.

And yes as USUAL I have something strange to post. I guess I am just strange. LOL

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I had tried some of them already, such as the old fashion soap and brush and letting a bread grow. My bread grown in thick and rough though it takes longer than most men. It takes a good week for me to get that five o'clock shadow. LOL But it also means I can't grow a bread because after a short while my skin gets irritated due to lack of air. It also means that I need a lot of softening from a lather in order for shaving to not feel like I am dry shaving.

But the one thing I hadn't tried before was the gel type so I picked up some yesterday and tried it this morning. While I didn't get a good lather the slipperiness at least didn't make it so much like dry shaving. And yes no burning eye either.

HAIR CONDITIONER! i swear by it, every time I run out of shaving cream for my legs ( which happens often, since I always forget to buy the damn stuff )

It does the exact same thing cream does, makes for a VERY comfortable shave, and skin feels like a babies bottom afterward. It's worth a try if you've got any kicking around.

ok, gramma here, gonna make some weird suggestions but have seen them work.  There is a castile soap, can't remember the name, that lathers really well and has minimum allergenic results.  Is inexpensive.

mild shampoo also works, just wet your face and massage into a soft lather,
have a cousin who uses this

and as said above, the samples isle in the ladies cosmetic aisle (travel size aisle) is full of little bottles of shampoo, even conditioner will work,

the old brush and cake of soap suggested by Mary works, child of mine uses that.

go to someplace like bed, bath and bodywork and ask for hypoallergenic shampoo and buy small one...

will give you some ideas to think on.........drug store or grocery usually good place for castile soap, is generally hypoallergenic, its "old school"

guess you don't want do the old "dry shave" (UGH) route, huh!  just kidding

I love her products.  On her Beautypedia website she extensively reviews all the major skin care and makeup brands and busts the myths perpetuated by the multi billion dollar industry and their false claims.  You can search her database to find the products you use or are thinking of buying and see honest evaluations based on sound science.  I will never pay for expensive department store brands again, when I can get just as good from a drugstore or from her line.  One important thing I learned from her is to never buy any skin care product sold in a jar.  The active ingredients (if there are any....many of them claim to but don't) immediatley begin to break down with from exposure to air, and bacteria on fingers contaminate the product.  Whatever brand you buy, serum, moisturizer, whatever, should come in an airtight pump which protects the product.  Ya learn something new every day.  :)

Hey, DV, that stuff sounds great!  I noticed the 3rd ingredient is glycerine.  That's the primary ingredient in Neutrogena dry skin lotion.  DH rubs a little of that on a couple of rough spots on his knees, and then rubs the excess on his face before he starts shaving.  He used to not use anything at all, as he shaves immediately after getting out of the shower.  His skin is still a little wet and slippery, the beard still soft.

You can always let that side grow, you know, then hit it with some hair dye and start a new trend, lol

Kidding of course. Ok - you are going to have to go to the ladies section of the isle for this one, but there are all sorts of fruity gels that women use to get the absolute closest shave (thus shaving less) and skintastic comes to mind, can get in varying fragrances, etc., and should be mentholess!

Do let us know how you make out!

I'd look at the labels to see if you call identify a common ingredient in the products that bother your eye.  Menthol is a likely culprit that comes to mind.

Ever try the old-fashioned system of solid shave soap and a brush?

Or consider growing your beard out to trim-and-go length?

Maybe it's not so unusual Dennis.  After all, most of us around here only shave body parts that are further away from our eyes!
