Silly Question

Hi everyone!  I have been checking in on all you sweet people as much as I can and today I have a small question.

I am undx and have been doing much reading on MS.  I read something just the other day that really got my attention.

I have always been a music lover, listening to music at every opportunity.  I love everything from classical to country to rock n roll (classic of course).  I have been noticing over this past year that I just can't listen to it anymore.  It doesn't matter the volume, it is just that is gets on my nerves!  Sounds silly huh?

If I'm in the car with my DH and he has the radio on it makes me uncomfortable and when I am by myself I never turn the radio on anymore.

Well, this person who has MS, basically said the same thing!  I couldn't believe it!  I just thought it was because I was getting older, the drs have said it so much I guess I was starting to think like them.......stupid me......

They went on to explain that is wasn't an ear issue it was a brain issue.  They talked about how they had tried to listen to every type of music they liked, but nothing pleased them anymore.  Of course as with all us limbolanders and the dx, she found something else she has lost.

I know it is not a major symptom or anything, but I know for myself that I really miss listening to my music and never once thought of it as a possible symptom of MS or not so much a symtom but a result of a brain lesion.

Just thought I would ask if any one else has experienced this?  Sorry if it is a silly topic, I just never remembered anyone on here ever mentioning anything like this.

Hope all of you are doing well.

hugs
doni

take care of that back, moist heat?helps me.
i hate hyperdrive, perfect word , never used it before, but will now.
i am not dxed, but i too, love music, always have, love to dance and sing and think i'm cool!
but now,it seems to take a greater toll each time i push my limits,i get tingles and shivers when my bods had enough. this happens in movie theaters too,i hug my ears now sometimes, which i'm sure my son and daughter in law just love to witness! but they keep asking me along..then the next minute i have to ask"what did they say?"
lost the movies train of thought in a mini second!

Hey All!

Thanks, now I know I'm not the only one.  I wince at most any unexpected sound, too.

Being an avid reader, I would love to go to Books A Million, but now I hate it cause I just get completly overwhelmed.  DH is a history buff and we went a couple weeks ago to get him a book, thought I was gonna scream before I got outta there.

Guess there are just too many books?  Or maybe I have finally lost that one tiny speck of a brain I thought I had left? ha...ha....ha

Wow, aren't we the bunch!?!

Taking a day off packing, spasms in hyperdrive and legs and arms don't want to cooperate.

All of you take care and know I'm thinking of you.

Hugs

I was just mentioning to my hubby the other day that there is a car in our neighborhood that has been modified and the muffler muffles nothing and it wasn't too long ago that I loved that sound!  I was a big fan of Friday Night races at the track and the louder the better!  A neighbor down the street has a race car in his garage and he starts it in the summer occasionally when he is loading it to take to a race...I loved that sound and it brought back many memories but I suppose I will be dreading it this year!

Then I said to hubby that the boom, boom of the rap **** and the cars with the modified stereos driving down the street are also driving me crazy!  He said that he will put up signs saying that the area around our house is a no cool zone and then the cool cars will have to stay away! ha ha

I have also found that it is a real chore to empty the dishwasher because I have to do it so slowly to avoid the dishes and glasses hitting each other because the noise just about sends me out of my skin!!!

I knocked up the music, mufflers and cool cars to aging but the dishes???

I understand what you are talking about.  Think it is a clutter thing.  I have trouble if I am stressed at all.  I things are busy or there is just a lot of stimulation else where.

I too listen to all types of music even more modern Viking Metal.  It is just that if there is anything happening I cannot deal with the extra stimulation.  Another thing I noticed is that listening to Be-Bop is very difficult when not long ago I really enjoyed and relaxed when listening.

Might be an age thing though.

This is not silly .  For those of us who love music it is darn right serious..   I started experiencing this sensitivity last fall.   One day I  was in a  check out line and the machine made its usual  noises but it startled me in an unusual way . Not quite painful but deep, nerve grinding ..  ??   then whenever I was at one of these machines I would have to back away, I must have looked nut-so wacko .

Then it progressed to music , so I played none ... then all noise and especially more than one at a time would irritate the he** out of me .  At the same time I was light sensitive , even having to wear sunglasses inside and at night (indoors) .

This has all eased up quite a bit . Thankfully I can now listen to soft music and don't wear the shades in the house.      I am undx.d

I hope this improves for you.           Jo

Hi Doni,

I'm glad you brought this up.  It is very weird, but I have this too.  It's not as bad as it was in the past, so mine comes and goes.  Makes me onery (sp?).  I attributed it to my insides, thinking that it would key me up at some level, and my body just couldn't handle that.  Same as loud obnoxious movies, or shows.

I've also had a different type too though, one that I feel is worth bringing up.  If you feel that the music doesn't 'lift' you anymore (not that the sounds bother you) because you are simply in the dumps, then that is something to watch out for.

To me, there was a clear distinction between the two.  I hope it comes back to you. . .

So, While you are packing those boxes, put on some Sarah McLachlan, or Joshua Radin, that ought to bring back the ol' goose bumps, and be easy on the brain. . .
miss you,
SL
p.s. don't over due it. . .those back spasms are a bear, and will get worse if you keep lifting heavy stuff durnnit!

It really depends on the day for me, If the T.V. is loud it feels overwelming to me and I make the boy's turn it down. I rarley lestin to my radio in the car anymore and I too am a music lover but like i said , it's just too overwhelming. I cant take too many things going on at one time, it starts to irretate me and I have never been this way. so I understand exactly what your saying.

Never thought about it until now. I guess I have the same. I always thought that it was kid related or husband. I keep the t.v. low and when I am in the car I can not have the radio on. I just feel better when it is nice and quite.

But then again could just be kid related... I have four.

Hi, Sweetie!!  Good to see you.  Yes, I used to love to listen to soft rock and stuff.  But, especially in the car, I cannot tolerate any extra sound, any at all.  Makes me really irritable.  Also certain csounds, like silverware rattling, makes me jump and wince.

It may be related to my vertigo, but it has also been worse with the MS.

Hi, I used to listen to a lot of music and also sing. I find now that it makes me uncomfortalble because it seems to make my head or ears vibrate even when I sing and especially low pitched  sounds  I just had a total hearing test by a specialist that my neuro sent me to for the vibrating. My hearing and ears are completely normal. THe hearing specialist said that it is all brain related. Hope this   helps you!
