Slipping on ice sensation

For the last few years, I have had increasing numbness and tingling in both my feet.  Wearing socks other than diabetic socks causes painful burning.  My doctor checked for diabetes, and I was negative, thank God.  She said it was likely peripheral neuropathy. For the past several weeks, when walking or even standing still, I have the sensation that I am slipping on ice.  I have to grab onto something or someone, because I feel like I am about to fall. When I look down, I realize that my foot has not moved.  Can these two things be related.  I am trying to get an appoint with a neurologist.

I have had a CT scan this week of my spine and a full blood workup, including the dreaded 4-hour glucose tolerance test for diabetes.  They are doing the nerve conduction study on Tuesday.  So the gamut is started.  Thank you.

I am waiting to hear back to schedule an appointment.  I am looking for a neurologist that specializes in MS, because these symptoms I am having are symptoms of MS.  I will keep you posted.  Thanks for the suggestion.

Hi - Welcome to our group :-)

neuropathic pain can be caused by MS. I have it. I treat it with meds. Balance issues are also a common MS problem. During my last relapse I had to walk against the wall for fear of falling down :-)

Is the neurologist you're seeing an MS specialist?

That sounds like you are losing your balance and could be many thinks, but a neurologist sounds like a sensible idea. Good luck :)
