Solumedrol IV side effects

My husband recently finished a five day treatment of solumedrol.  He has been sweating terribly, through a sheet and mattress pad.  Is this a common side effect?  Also he is sooooooo moody, how long does this last?
Thanks in advance.

Thank you all so much for replying!  My husband is doing much better today.  He didn't sweat nearly as much last night. As for being moody....he is coming around.  He didn't look like he wanted to rip my face off all evening.  He did seem more like himself.  Thanks again.

I had the sweats too, but it only happened for a day or two after treatments started.  I had a 6 day course at that time.  Did his doctor give him a prednisone taper, that is steroids in pill form to take for a week or two after the solu-medrol was over?  If not and he is still having the sweating, you guys might want to let the doctor know about it.  I'm not sure if that is normal or not, but it won't hurt double checking to see.  I hope he can get back to normal soon.  The steroids are supposed to help him do just that.  Please let us know how he is doing.  Take good care, both of you.

You will learn I'm rather brain warped, but I didn't mean those last two post for Shelly, even though I put her name on them.  Please forgive me, the info was for you and your hubby.

The info below was taken from the Health Pages, you can read the complete text by going to the upper right hand of the page and click on the Health Page icon.  The article title is: Steroids - Friend or Foe

Main Immediate SIDE EFFECTS:

Potassium loss - this can lead to muscle cramps, heart palpitations,

Sodium retention - this leads to fluid retention and edema

Appetite increase - The longer you take it the more weight you tend to gain.  This weight tends to deposit in the belly, at the base of the neck and in the face

Mood changes - this can be anything from a euphoria to grumpiness to overt severe dpression

Energy changes - the usual is increased energy, but some people feel listless

Insomnia - This is related to increased energy and stimulated mood.

I can't give you an educated answer, as I've never done the meds.

Many on here have used these meds and I'm sure they will have good answers to your question.

I will check the Health Pages for you and copy & paste here if I find something.

I'm wishing you and your husband better days.

Hi. My daughter has had several treatments of solumedrol over the past 5 years. I remember her complaining of the sweats too. And the moodiness too. Oh, yes. Although she is a princess to begin with, she gets worse! lol She also ballooned up like the michelin man. Going from a ladies size M to a mans size L in sweats just to be comfortable. It lasted for her 3-5 days I guess. Plus she said she gets amazingly hungry and has to be careful not to put on pounds during this. And the moody thing could also be trying to deal with everything too. I think I might feel a wee bit sorry for myself too if I was in their shoes. lol
I wish you and your husband all the best. You will get through it!
keep smiling!
