Sudden Crushing Pain help

I had a frightening and very painful experience today and don't know what to think of it.

I was sitting with my laptop (as usual) when my arms became really heavy and tired, like bricks were tying them down.  This started happening about 2 weeks ago and has been intermittent.  I put my laptop away becuase I was too weak.

I have spasms, the MS Hug etc,  they are bad----very very bad.

This felt different.  My arms felt on fire and at the same time like they were being pulled---I mean really hard.  Then suddenly, it was like both of my arms from elbow down were being crushed,  I mean really crushed.  I screamed out and kept screaming until it stopped which was about 20-30 seconds.  It was really scary and I don't know what to think.

I have had a few new things lately like the brief double vision at night when I am in bed.  It's so hard to know what is really important.

Anyone ever experience something like this?   Is this important?

Thank you!

I know what you mean by feeling "blown off" by the medical community. I actually had an ambulance driver give me a "lecture" about using the service (I paid for by the way) too much for what he believed was nothing but an anxiety attack.

It took three trips to the emergency room on three consecutive nights for the stupid doctors to figure out that I had 1) pneumonia 2) acid reflux and 3) probably MS hug happening all at the same time. Felt like a heart attack to me. Very painful. Anxiety attack my butt! It was lucky I was persistant.

If you feel you need to go to the ER, you do so. Don't let the bums blow you off. If the episode of screaming pain happens again, go to the ER. It's better to be safe than sorry.

I hope you feel better.

Thanks everyone,  Johnnymutt,  My joints don't feel any different than usual.

The way my body responded today was to have the worse MS Hug I have ever had before.  My arms were plastered to my sides and my chest was squeezed much worse than I have ever had.  It was painful

The other 'hangover' I had yesterday was that my arms felt like they had weights attched to them, it took so much energy to lift them.  Doing regular tasks was difficult.

The last 'hangover' was that my twitching was going all day long.  Usually it doesn't start until late afternoon or evening.

Lois - I am sorry that I am late in responding to your post.  I am so sorry that you have had to experience this!  I, too, hope you go to the ER if it happens again.  Swallow your redheaded pride and GO.  ;0)

Keep us posted, ok?

Hugs,
Addi

I was wondering Lois, are your joints hurting now, after the experience? I have had similar experiences, that resulted in my elbow and wrist being very sore for days afterward.

I didn't end up going to the ER.  (I know I'm bad) I have a really hard time asking for help from the medical community.  I just don't know how to explain it and am afraid that I will be sort of 'blown off'.

What I ended up doing was staying inside the house last night so my sister could watch me.  If it happens again today we are going straight to the ER.

I can't imagine what it was. Hopefully it won't happen again.  I can't tell you fhow terrified I was!.

thanks for so much support

Did you go to the ER?

I agree with Quix that this sounds too serious to ignore.

Sending good wishes,

Hi, I am so sorry this has happened.  ANY new and really severe pain deserves an immediate evaluation.  I am a believer of the ER to make sure no acute "sumething" has happened like a spinal compression fracture, stroke or whatever.  Even if you know you have MS a pain that causes you to scream for 30 seconds needs to be checked out.

Okay?

HUGS

Lois,
I posted in your journal. Yes I have had this type of pain. It was nerves firing randomly during a flare. My final dx of the nerves firing randomly came after several other ideas/thoughts/guesses by the docs I had at the time. When I mad it to the neuro, he made the right call. Neurontin was finally prescribed and worked well.

I hope your pain doesn't return but you need to make note of it for your neuro. It is considered a paraesthesia but to me , that word doesn't do justice to the type of pain you are talking about .
