Still getting prepared for upcoming doc appt

I just want to make sure that I got this right.  You all have been so helpful, I really appreciate it.

For those not familiar with my story I have a follow up appt with the MS doc this week, set up by my regular neuro.  My regular neuro is bothered by my lesions patteren that is mostly in the corpus callosum (SP?) and he believes that combined with my past history of ON and other things he believes it is....well you know.

The last time I saw the MS neuro he felt that the lesions or spots that he called them were from migraines and my age.  I have been on Topamax for the last 8 years (for migraine control).  One of my previous neuros tried to stop the Topamax due to my complaints of cog. trouble, but I ended up with daily headaches.  Even on the topamax I will have a ophthalmic migraine about once every 3 weeks, but without any resulting headache.  I haven't had a migraine headache in several years.  When I was a teenager I had a migraine about once every 3 months.  I do have a copy of a MRI from 10 years ago - prior to migraine med so I know what my brain used to look like for comaparison.

Does anyone know if the auras able to cause the spots on the MRI?

Thx Jenn

Shell- The regular neuro won't do anything with the MS dx as it is not his speciality.  I go to a lg neuro group with numerous doc and they all have their own speciality that they treat and diagnose.  So that is why I have to see the other doc as my neuro does not treat MS.

ON was dx two years ago and I did have lesions present at the time of Dx.  I have had more than one episode of ON.

10 years ago I know that I had a clear MRI, no lesions - but migraines.  Yes, the migraines seem to be the "issue" for the MS specialist.

Quix - I wrote down that exact question to ask the MS specialist - fiqured I would just go to the source,

Good luck, kiddo.  Why don't you ask your reg neuro whether migraines can cause lesions in the CC.

Hi Jenn,

Your regular neuro sounds like a keeper. Especially with your history of ON.  He knows that up'ed your odds.  Remind me, did you have brain lesions at the time of ON? If so your chances of developing MS are even greater.  You mention 10 yrs and I think that is the timeframe with the risk.  I'll look for the article.

Sounds as if the migraine past has muddied the dx for you a bit - at least w/the specialist.

Is the regular neuro looking for a 2nd opinion w/this Dr. you think?

Good luck w/your appt. Jenn,
-Shell
