Sudden Onset Back Pain

I am on the side of "probable MS", although negative MRI's according to my neurologist and scheduled for 4 sets of evoked potentials in a few weeks.  Last Thursday I had a sudden onset of mid to lower back pain, and shooting pain down my back when I lowered my head.  I was seeing stars!  I left work and cried from the pain for 2 days, before the neuro ordered some muscles relaxers and neurontin.  I finally have some relief but am having extreme difficulty walking.  I had a lumbar MRI yesterday because he thought it was maybe a herniated disc.  My question is this, if there is no sign of a herniated disc what in the world is happening to me?  My entire torso is spasming, it feels crazy and the pain when not on the meds is worse than giving birth to my kids.  Anyone ever experience this?  Or anything like this?

Hey, Alli - I have back pain on and off, which seems to be from spasticity.  It's surprising to me how painful the back can be!

Im so sorry your in such pain. In 2006 I herniated a disc in my neck and I do have a good idea how you feel. I laid in bed for three weeks with no control of my right arm, I cried like a baby and I kept insisting that my shoulder was out of the socket, And yes It is more painful than labor and the sad thing is you havent got the bundle of joy at the end, Hang in there if its a disc it will slowly get better, It took a while but the pain lessened every day
take care take your meds and feel better.
