Surgery

Had 2 wisdom teeth removed today with general anesthetic.  In a lot of pain, stitches both sides, swelling etc.

The muscle relaxant they give has shown up my obvious left side weakness in leg as the spasticity usually helps it. Had trouble walking and controling it when I woke up. Needed a wheelchair to get to the car.

Just hoping I don't get a relapse now. What are the chances of this happening??

Hi All,

I am on antibiotics and pain meds. I am feeling alittle better today.

Unfortunatley we did have a lot of physical cleaning to do at work last week and I was really struggling. It is a new job (5 weeks in) and they don't know about my physical issues, so I just soldiered on. One of the guys I work with I told him and he was wonderful and took over the more physical jobs and put me on more paper work so for that I am so grateful.

Lucky I am only part time . 7am until 12 noon.
The only consolation is I now have 5 days off to recover from the surgery so believe me, a lot of that will involve sleeping and resting.

I really need to keep this job for a while as we need the money.  I was not working for 2 years prior to this due to fatigue and going back even part time has been hard.

I realise that work is not really an option for me any more and each day causes me stress as i am dragging myself around with chronic fatigue. It will only be a short time until I can leave.....maybe in 2 months so just hanging in there.

Thanks for the well wishes.

MistyLee,

Hi Misty Lee. Nice to see you.

Infection can make you prone to relapse for sure. Are you on preventative antibiotics? Does the surgeon understand your position?
As for the weakness, your spot on w/your thoughts with meds relaxing and compiling the existing weakness. I'm hoping the this is a pseudo for you and you see some improvement. And, if you are able to slowly back down the meds that may be a gauge you can use to see.  Are you getting a 2nd surgery?

Clearly the stress of all you are dealing with right now puts you in prime position for one. Please know my thoughts are with you and all those effected by the disaster.

I did not know that you lived in Christchurch!  I can not immagine how things are going for you all.  I live in the eicenter of Katrina.  Not New Orleans, but where the actual storm hit ground.  Anyway,  the exceswsive heat and work caused a slight relpapse.  Back then, I was not diagnosed, but I know something was not right.

Good for you opening your home.  We did the same.  We shared food and had to use the bbq grill to cook!  Just remember, there are things that you can do to "do your part"  that will not overexhert you physically.  Make sure that your employer knows that you are willing to do to a little extra, but that it can't be physical or have insane deadlines right now.

Let me know what happens with the mouth surgery, I have a surgery coming up too.

Oh you poor girl..I remember having my wisdom teeth out many years ago and it was so painful and I remember not being able to eat anything except slushy stuff for days.  I really hope that you don't go into relapse and this will be an unknown. Just rest and take care of yourself. You have had so much a lot to deal with recently and the earthquake must have been such a shock.

Take care and hope the painkillers do their stuff.

Thanks JemmAus,

Yes it has been very stressful. I am already suffering bad fatigue from it but my house is ok as well as my family. My work not so good. Trashed inside with major cracks and roof damage. I am struggling to stay awake by noon each day and need to sleep. Our city is devestated and people I work with still have no water or sewer or power.

My work was close to lyttelton , the epicentre. We have some buildings coming down and the rest took a week for us to clean up.  It is very scary upstairs with the aftershocks and I dont want to go there anymore.

my surgery was rescheduled as it was suppose to be the day after the earthquake.

Also we opened our house to others for showers and washing and a hot meal so I will be surprised if I dont get a major relapse as it was very exhausting.  I have felt very tearful and irritable ,so sorry I havent talked to anyone.  I just didnt feel up to it.  I really appreciate the concern and all the help we have received around the world. We could not have done it on our own.
It will be many years before we recover from this.
Take care

Not sure about the relapse bit - I know stress sets a relapse off in me though , usually 1 to 2 weeks after stress occurs.

I've been so worried about you!!! Are you ok there? Absolute nightmare in Chch....are your family and home safe? Got a functioning loo or one of the masses using a portaloo or competing with the cat in the back yard?

So glad you posted.....I was not five minutes ago watching a 1996 docco on what would happen  to Chch if a major earthwuake hit - it was prophetic...
