Survived the spinal tap/lumbar puncture

Hi everyone!

Well, underwent the spinal tap on Thursday morning.  I had a mild headache on Thursday & Friday, but my biggest complaint is the backache!  Still have a mild low backache today.

The procedure itself only took about 20 minutes & then we were on our way home.  Tylenol has kept the headache & backache under control, so I was able to enjoy my time with my Mom.  We were able to spend time with my brother & his wife - to see how their new house is coming along (they are in the middle of building it, and are living on site as my brother is doing a lot of the work himself).  Took my 2 dogs over to my brothers house yesterday - it was pandemonium!!!  He has 3 large dogs - so there were some very tired doggies last night!!

My Mom just headed out - she has a 3 to 4 hour drive home.  I forgot what it is like to be "mothered"!!!  Even at almost 38 years old, I am still just her little girl and she spent the whole weekend taking care of me.  :)  I forgot how much she likes to feed her kids...she was always making something to eat....not complaining mind you - just ate a lot more than I usually do!!  :)

Given the horror stories that I have heard about spinal taps/lumbar punctures - I feel pretty darn lucky that I got through it as easily as I did.

Hope everyone had a good weekend, going to see what's happening here & try to catch up with you all!

Hugs,
Chrisy

You definitely want to take it easy (rest) for the first few days.  I was feeling pretty good, other than the mild headache & backache and probably overdid things - on day 4 the headache got really bad.  Spent today laying on the couch drinking lots of fluids.  Hoping to go back to work tomorrow.

Even if you feel like you can do lots - remember that you have just undergone an invasive procedure!!  :)

Good luck to both of you - may you sail through the sp/lp this week.

Hugs,
Chrisy

yeah for you!  i am happy it went so well and you had your mom there to give you some love, support and pampering....i think we all need a bit of that once in awhile.

i am encouraged reading your story as i have my LP on friday morning.  i hope it is in/out in a short amount of time and then just a couple of days of bedrest!

what worked best for you - laying down with your feet elevated for a couple of days afterwards?

thanks

Glad to hear it. My back was bad too and the Doctor acted like that never happens.

Chrisy,
That is good news that you made it through with little side effects (I did too!) - we'll put you on the list of 6 out of 7 people that have little problems with the LP,.

When do you see the neuro for the results  I hope your wait is not too long.

be well, Lulu
