Ughhhhh

We were supposed to get LP results back today on my daughter. The lab sent the wrong results! So now we have to find out if they just sent the wrong one or if they even ran the right one to begin with. I'm so frustrated. So the doc has already mentioned  possible MS but today he also mentioned he tested for NMO. I thought that was strange since even though she has cervical spine lesions, she doesn't have any ocular issues. Why would he test for NMO?

Dealing with labs, and collecting results, can be a major pain in the a*s. I'm sorry that your lab seems to have dropped the ball.

NMO and MS have many similarities. Vision problems and weakness in a limb are common to both. In NMO the vision problems and limb issues need not present at the same time. NMO does involve spinal lesions. What NMO typically does not include are brain lesions.

It's a good thing that your daughter's doc is checking every possibility.

Ugh.  That is terrible!  Wow, when do you find out what kind of mistake was made mama bear?  I cannot imagine how frustrating that must be.

I think NMO can also cause spine lesions in addition to the optic nerve. There are similarities with NMO and MS but they are different.  It's a good thing in my opinion that the doctor is considering another disease that is a mimic of sorts of MS.

I would imagine that NMO has a different course of treatment than MS.  The frustrating thing about MS is that it is a disease that is diagnosed in part by excluding other possibilities. So, this is normal for a doctor to look for other possibilities other than MS.

Keep hanging in there!
