Update changing to lyrica

So by this morning the effect of reducing the gabapentin without addding the lyrica had me me in serve pain (we are at the begining of a long holiday weekend in the Uk) The thought of reducing the gaba any further was inconcievable and knowing if I didn't do something now it would be Tuesday before I could get hold of my GP. I phoned the GP's sugery and explained they got my Gp to phone back. He has agreed that i can start adding the Lyrica now!

I hope this will sort me out a bit.

Twist,

I am glad to hear that your doctor finally said to start the lyrica. for me the lyrica worked it just took a few days to get into my system to take the full effect. I hope this makes you feel better and you get the relief you deserve.

be well,

Paula

The holiday doesn't really celebrate anything. It's the last monday before the kids go back to school here in the UK. So I guess the end of summer, but I don't recall actually having summer.

I ahve completley switched over to Lyrica now things are alot better than Friday but I'm not sure if it has improved any from being on the full dose of gabapentin. But then I hadn't realised the relief I was getting from gabapentin until I stopped it. So I remain open minded.

Good for you for taking charge and being able to stay aware of the calendar and office hours all the while you are in increasing pain.  I hope relief comes quickly.

I understand the need for a taper if you were coming off all seizure prevention drugs completely but I don't understand why you would need to go all the way to zero drug and zero pain relief before making a drug change.

At least you know for sure now that medication is still necessary for your pain control.  I have been in the position before of wondering if I still need a certain medications.  I'm usually a coward and unwilling to risk the symptoms that would be the result of failing a drug reduction trial.  You already knew you needed a change.  Now you have a better understanding of how much these medications are helping.

Have a good holiday.  What is the UK celebrating?  We have quite a few 'Monday holidays' in the US.  Do you have special days that used to be observed on specific dates that are now moved to the closest Monday for celebration?  Or does this celebration just naturally fall on Monday?  Are you distracted yet?
