Urinary Urgency- What is yours like?

Hi All-   I posted a month or so ago asking if I should push for more tests following months of paresthesia in my left leg, urinary urgency, tremors and non-vertiginous dizziness.  My original brain MRI was found a "non-specific" lesion and that is all.  I also had images of my lumbar spine which showed mild stenosis and degenerative disc disease at L4-L5.

I had an EMG scheduled for today and I hadn't realized that I had the option for a 2nd brain MRI 3 months after the original to check for new lesions or enhancements-- I took care of that on Monday.

Both tests came back negative.  The brain MRI was exactly the same as the first and the findings recommended I can stop imaging the brain now now.  The EMG of my leg came back negative.

So, I am done with brain MRIs.  The Spine specialist told me stenosis can cause the leg issues and sometimes "bladder incontinence" but there is not enough evidence to diagnose me with anything right now.

I guess my question is, does "incontinence" also include urgency?  I don't have accidents or anything, it just feels like I have to "go" even though i have already "gone" and it seems to come and go about every 30 days and stays for a week.  I am going through a batch of this right now.

I never had Cervical or Thoracic images taken and the specialist even said lesions there can cause these issues. I don't want any more tests unless they're warranted-- these MRIs are expensive.  It's just that nothing I have been told is conclusive.

It would be nice to know how other's deal with their bladder or how their symptoms started.  (I know that's an invasive question, sorry!)

Thanks

Hi there, talking about bladder issues is par for the course,  no question has ever been off limits in this MS community :D

I don't think what your talking about would be classified as incontinence, feeling or needing to frequently urinate is not the same as incontinence, an over active bladder, urge incontinence, urine retention etc.

If your only experiencing the feeling of needing to urinate without all the other issues that come with it, it sounds more like the typical sign of a urinary tract infection, which can cause the feeling like you have to urinate all the time, with or without burning or pain with urination. Feeling a constant pressure to urinate but nothing often comes out is a one of the top 5 signs of a UTI, the regular pattern you describe would be consistent with a reoccurring infection but a monthly pattern could also be hormonal related...

Have you had any basic UTI tests?

Hope that helps........JJ

oops terribly sorry but i just worked out that your male so ignore the hormonal comment please :D

You mentioned in one of your prior responses  "The UTI test was negative but he thinks I have Prostatitus.  He didn't test for it which is why I questioned whether my issue was really that or if it was neurogenic bladder" there are basically 4 different types of 'Prostatitus' and if there isn't any sign of infection it could be....

"Chronic nonbacterial prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome. This is the most common form of the disease, accounting for 90% of the cases. The condition is marked by urinary and genital pain for at least three of the past six months. Patients have no bacteria in their urine, but may have other signs of inflammation. The condition can be confused with interstitial cystitis (a chronic inflammation of the bladder)."

Females more commonly experience bladder related issues and uti's than males do, m & f anatomy being very different makes males have a lot less potential causes than females do (eg childbirth, hormonal, menstrual, sexual, proximity to bowel etc etc) so whilst i'd normally be open and describe my bladder issues, i actually don't think it would be of any help to you....

sorry about the mix up.......JJ
