Uvietis/Iritis

HI ALL,

IT'S BEEN A LONG TIME SINCE I SPOKE TO ANY OF YOU AROUND HERE. I'M AFRAID I HAVE TURNED INTO A LURKER. MAINLY DUE TO JUST NOT ENOUGH TIME TO BE ACTIVELY INVOLVED AROUND HERE AND THE RESIDENT TEAM ARE JUST SO BRILLIANT!

SO I AM HOPING THOSE THAT REMEMBER ME WILL JUMP IN HERE AS I HAVE CONSULTANTS DISAGREEING WITH EACH OTHER AGAIN.

I WAS FINALLY DIAGNOSED WITH IRITIS ON FRIDAY WHICH IS PART OF THE WIDER SPECTRUM OF PROBLEMS UNDER THE UVEITIS UMBRELLA. GP TELLS ME MS IS CAUSING IT, BUT MY MS NURSE AND DOC. AT THE MS CLINIC SAY DEFINITELY NO CONNECTION.

OPTHAMOLOGIST SAYS DEFINITLY IS MS AS THE EYE IS NEVER THE PRIMARY SIGHT OF INFLAMMATION AND IT IS INDICATIVE OF ANOTHER AUTO-IMMUNE ISSUE. HE IS NOT GOING TO DO ANY OTHER TESTS AS HE SAYS MS AND UVEITIS HAVE A WELL-DOCUMENTED CORRELATION.

SO HERE IS MY QUANDRY, THE MS TEAM SAY NOT, SO IT'S NOT RECORDED AS A RELAPSE WHICH MIGHT BE IMPORTANT DRUG WISE. THE OPTHO SAYS IT IS AND WILL NOT DO FURTHER TESTS.

NOW IF THE MS TEAM ARE RIGHT I MIGHT HAVE ANOTHER AUTO-IMMUNE PROBLEM.

CAN ANYONE JUMP IN WITH EXPERIENCES, KNOWLEDGE, LINKS TO RESEARCH PAPERS, OR ANYTHING THAT CAN HELP ME EXCEPT FOR BANGING THEIR HEADS TOGETHER?

HOPE YOU ARE ALL DOING OKAY IT's MOTHERING SUNDAY HERE SO HAPPY MOTHERS DAY TO ALL YOU LADIES.

PAT X

A friend of mine has been doing some research and has found evidence of what may be the link between MS and Uvietis.

It seems that Uvietis/Iritis is never the primary sight of inflammation and is indicative of inflammation elsewhere. Therefore if all other tests are clear it probably means your MS is active but is not a relapse in itself as it is not directly caused by MS. She sent me these 4 papers and 25 abstracts. If anyone would like copies send me  a PM.

Thanks all. Pat x

Hi Pat, I'm not sure of any links or research but I have had a similar experience. I had Irisitis last March followed by ON in the October and ON in my other eye last month. I've been dx with rrms on the basis of a positive LP & mri scan plus little symptoms here and there (numbness etc) BUT my main problem has been my eyes and I've also had conflicting advice from my doc's! My neuro even says he'd be inclined to rethink my diagnosis if the problem continues to target my eyes & vision. I'd be interested in hearing what others have to say on the subject.
All the best, Zoe

HEY, PAT!  ALWAYS NICE TO SEE YOU AROUND HERE!  I'M SORRY YOU'RE GOING THROUGH ALL THIS, AND, UNFORTUNATELY I HAVE NOTHING TO ADD TO WHAT'S ALREADY BEEN SAID.

QUIX HASN'T BEEN AROUND IN A WHILE - SHE'S TAKING CARE OF HER OWN HEALTH ISSUES, AND I, TOO, HOPE SHE'S DOING OK.

BIG HUGS ACROSS THE POND,
LISA

HI PAT, IT IS ALWAYS GREAT TO SEE YOU PASS THROUGH HERE. I AM SORRY TO HEAR YOU ARE DEALING WITH SOMETHING ELSE.

A QUICK GOOGLE TURNED UP THIS FROM THE URITIS ORG SITE -http://www.iritis.org/treatment.php

"Some individuals will have genetic predisposition to uveitis which is related to autoimmune disease processes.....
because of the relationship between Uveitis and over 90 different pathogens and autoimmune disease processes we suggest that individuals with recurrent or chronic uveitis be treated by an uveitis specialist"

THEY DO LIST MS AS ONE OF THE MANY AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES.

KEEP LURKING AND STOP AND SAY HI TO US EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE, OK?

HUGS,
L

My eye doctor says
MS patients get iritis often but you can get iritis and NOT have MS.
It is not something that just MS patients get, anyone can get it.

Hope that helps
