Also these last mth i ahve been having problems swallowing i have ben ignoring it really but i used to take tablets so well now i'll go to swallow and it wont do it it's so stupid and it takes me ages to get down my meds i've not told anyone except on here as they think i am mad i would think also when i sip water from a bottle it goes down the wrong hole nearly all the time and i cough i aslo feel like i am swallowing a lump the whole time and my children say i gulp alot i thought it was my sinues my as tuesday ENT appoitnement proved there are nothing wrong with my sinues or inner ear and he feels it all central i have pressure behind my right eye and jaw pain on that side too i do suffer from TMJ and wonder if when opening my mouth wide for him to check my throat it set it off just a thought alwyas does when i go dentist.

anyway does anybody else have these issues.

hope you all well.

Hi

i am sorry you are suffering too, you are amoung good friends here.

I have had a endoscopy 3 yrs ago as i had bad pain in my chest and acid reflux they found it to be irratated so started me on tablets to stop the acid coming up i was on many different ones but it stopped as soon as it started i gave up smoking soon after that and that helped as well.I still get it from time to time.

The worst is the choking and the lump in the throat that feels i am swallowing something all the time and the loud noises i make is embarsing i hope they find us answers soon.

I too have difficulty swallowing and it isn't due to anxiety..lol.  I kept insisting and finally I had an upper GI w/ barium swallow.  It came back abnormal, suggested esophageal motility disorder.  Last Wednesday I had the test where you swallow the pill cam.  Then Thursday I had an endoscopy.  During that time they stretched my esophagus. I am waiting on the results of the overall picture.  Tomorrow I see an ENT.

The swallowing thing is horrifying.  I don't take medications without someone is with me.  Yesterday I was home alone and I was eating and I got choked on rice.  I like you just want some relief.  I hope you find yours.

Hi Sam,

I haven't been diagnosed - another of those in limbo land - but my neuro just sent me to a speech/swalling therapist because I have trouble swallowing, and my speech gets slurred. Like Wobbly suggested, the therapist told me to take pills with pudding, yogurt, applesauce, etc. - or crush them if it was something that can be crushed. And for thin liquids, swish it around in your mouth a bit - take control of it and then deliberately swallow. I'm still working on that one.

I strangle on stuff like popcorn, which I simply avoid all together, and I'm having spells where I strangle on my own saliva - pretty scary. And the trouble with my right eye is affecting my ability to work when it bothers me real bad. At least I know I'm not all alone out there.

Hang in there!

no..not getting out much..we just had a bunch of snow again, so I had to cancel my GP appt...have to wait another week.  I'm doing alright though.. off balance, but the vertigo has settled abit.. ssshhhh, don't want to say that too loud...hehehe.. it might hear that...

there are so many MS mimics.. MG is one to check into ... I wonder how they test for that... I think I'll look it up online...

take care and hope you get in soon..

Hi hun,

Thanks, i am chasing them up tomorrow as its just not on i got refered 3 weeks ago now as urgent and i've heard nothing!!

i must start a new timeline i stopped when i got dx in jan 2008 but there have been so many sx and old ones back so they need to be added, must get onto that.

Been wondering about Myasthenia Gravis think i'll get them to test for that only casue of the recent swallowing problems and eye problems and upper and lower constant muscle weakness plus my right leg muscle tone is smaller its visable and when i put my zip up boots on it fits my left leg but baggy on my right lol i'm hoping being a neuro hospital that there check for all MS mimics i just want to get well and be a proper mum and get out with my friends again.

How are you doing? are you getting out and about?

Hi

Thank you so much for your advise i might try that is it because the throat does not recognise water as it too thin? and it needs a thick substanse to swallow, cause the water ends up sliding down and not even knowing it and i choke but the tablet then is left with no water so i start the process again and the same thing happens, i will try this as it has been really bothering me, thank you.

Hey there, sorry your having such a rough time:(  I can relate completely to some of your problems~~~not so much with the vertigo.  I still have it but it seems to be at certain times of the day, so I'm learning to work around that.~~The swallowing is or has been a problem for me too.~~~Water/coffee seem to be my tricky ones. I am getting so I gasp and gulp with it.-----And taking meds was getting to be interesting------as like with you they just don't seem to go down:(    and in my case it always seems to be the ones that are bitter and taste like sh@# ~~~~so my dr told me to try taking them with either yogurt or applesauce----which does help alot.----So, maybe you can try that:)  I know it really helped me alot:) .  And I hope things work out better for you:)  Talk to ya soon.
