Vitamin D

I have had chronically low vitamin d levels for a couple of years now. My neuro suggested I get a vit D injection 600,000 IU because being on 50,000 3 times a week didn't raise my levels. So I got the injection a couple of weeks ago and had my level checked today. My levels have NOT come up at all still hovering right around 29. I don't know what else to do I get as much sun as I possibly can, when I can't due to weather I go to the tanning bed, I have lost weight, and I am eating better! Any suggestions would be great!!!! I am waiting to hear the results of a colonoscopy to see if I have issues in my intestines to prevent absorption but that would have nothing to do with the injection not taking. I am so frustrated right now.

Thanks!

Hi. I'm dealing with low vitamin D myself after recently discovering it is low. I've been supplementing  for quite a while before learning that I'm low. Going to pick up portabello & shiitake mushrooms until my visit with GP. If I learn anything of value I'll share it here. It is said not to shower for 24 hours after sun exposure for full absorption of Vit D.

If your gut is not absorbing injections would not help. That is a good call on the doctors part. What other conditions cause low vitamin D? Low vitamin d is thought to be linked to causing  MS. Once you have MS it does not matter for MS if vitaimin d is low. It is important for your over all health however. Some neurologist want all patients to take large amounts of vitamin d regardless. My MS Specialist says unless you are low it is a waste of time supplementing.. He also says it is not important once you have MS but for your overall health. Dairy  in large amounts can ironically leach out vitamin d. I was told to look into vegetables for vitamin d.

I have MS but have 65 vitamin d with out supplements.
