Warning - TMI

I have been having stomach/digestive issues for years now.  Been told I had Chrone's, to it not being Chrones and them saying I have IBS, then my doctor didn't agree with IBS, so now I basically have nothing but stomach problems.  I've tried diet changes, vitamins, more water intake...all that.  Nothing seems to make a difference.

I am also currently being tested for MS, my neurologist appointment is in August.  At first my doctor thought I had fibro., but then with my vision issues, balance/vertigo issues and so on she suggested going in for tests.

Well today I have had some pretty bad stomach problems, beginning about an hour ago.  When I went to the bathroom (#2) I had some blood in my stool and on the toilet paper.  Not bright red, like when you get a cut, but a little bit darker like when you get your blood drawn it's a little bit darker.  It's not blackish or tarry, but I was just wondering if anyone else had problems like this?

Sorry for the TMI, but I have gone to 3 different intestinal doctors, had 3 colonoscopies and upper gi's and had an extra of my stomach last year.  They haven't dx me with anything yet, but there has to be something wrong.  I don't want to call my doctor or go back into the ER if they are just going to send me home and say "I don't know".

Thanks and again, sorry TMI!

I get an A, I just went back and read the page J referenced, and I almost remember the important points from listening to all the GI docs for dad.  This is a very informative, brief page and maybe others should take a quick look to understand what I was trying to say.

Thank you Lulu and Jenseq.

I'm wondering if I should call the ER or the doctor on call.  I looked in the mirror while in the bathroom because I was feeling really dizzy and my pupils were dilating and then contracting over and over again.  I'm feeling very tired, but have been told so many times that I am over reacting that I am not sure what to do now.

Anyone have these eye issues?

Victoria, I have to lean toward Jen's explanation.  My father had multiple episodes in the hospital recently because his platelet count plunged - he was ignoring having tarry stools.  Listening to the doctors, the color of the blood indicates where it is coming from in the digestive tract - the further it has to travel to the rectum to exit, the darker the color.

Bleeding from hemmoiroids (sp?) is almost always bright red because that has the least amount of time and distance to travel.

I really was paying attention during all those consults for my dad. It turned out to be bleeding from an ulcer that couldn't stop because he was on Plavix as a blood thinner.  It took three hospitalizations and multiple tests to find the problem over several months.

BTW, there is no topic here that is TMI.  We discuss it all - this is a very smart group that can talk about anything, and we do.

Sorry you have to call the docs again, but it really is necessary.

let us now how it goes.  - Lulu

Thank you.  I will call my doctor tomorrow.  Yes, it is a maroon color and yes, smelly.  I'm just so sick of going in and spending money just to be told there is nothing they can find wrong.  But I suppose everyone in this forum goes through that.  Thanks again.

Is the blood a maroon color?  Is it smelly?

I think this means you have bleeding at the colon, which could be lots of stuff.  But you should go see your doctor about it - it's not something to be messing around with.

Here's what I found online about it:
